Prerequisites
To have passed or to be doing "Introduction to research" or "Work placement".
Objectives
This subject allows students to develop a rigorous and innovative research in the history of science through the elaboration of an MA Dissertation. Two modalities of MA Dissertation are offered. On the one hand, students who have done the "Work placement" will do an MA Dissertation in which the analysis of a case study in the fields of scientific heritage or scientific communication will be compulsory. On the other hand, students who have done "Introduction to research" will do an MA Dissertation in which archival work, or other types of fieldwork such as oral history, will be compulsory.

Contents
The subject will consist in the elaboration of an MA Dissertation under the supervision of one person among the Master's teaching staff. The MA Dissertation, which will be conceptually and formally correct, will have around 12.000 words (without bibliography) and might adopt the format of a publishable article in a prestigious journal related to the history of science, scientific heritage or science communication. The MA Dissertation will include a state of the art; objectives; the description of the research performed; conclusions; bibliography; index.

The subject consists in two orientation sessions, supervised work and autonomous work by the students. The MA Dissertation will be orally presented to a jury formed of three members of the teaching staff in a public event that will take place in the beginning of september.

The MA Dissertation must be approved by the supervisor, who will send to the coordination of the course a numerical mark and a reasoned report. Afterwards, on the day established by the calendar, students will publicly present their work before a jury formed by three members of the teaching staff, who will evaluate the conceptual and formal correction both of the written texts and the oral presentation. The final mark will result from the supervisor's report (25%) and the mark given by the jury (75%).

Each MA Dissertation will have its own bibliography.
