Procedure:

1. Preliminary information meeting: during the first semester, students will be informed about the objective of the Master’s Thesis (TFM), the selection of a supervisor, and the timeline.
2. Selection of a (provisional) topic for the TFM and choice of supervisor from among the professors of the UAB and UB departments involved in the Master’s program.
3. Brief presentation of the project in February 2027 before the professors of the TFM specialization.
4. Presentation of the current status and future direction of the work in May 2027 before the professors of the TFM specialization (Catalan language or Catalan literature).
5. Submission of the written thesis at the beginning of July 2027, and defense before a panel composed of the two TFM instructors from the track (Catalan language or Catalan literature) and a third member, in mid-July 2027. In very exceptional cases, the TFM may be submitted and defended at the beginning of September 2027. A minimum of 5 supervision meetings with the supervisor is mandatory, as is submitting at least 2 drafts of written text. The exact submission dates for the TFM and the presentation schedule will be communicated in due course.

Annotation: within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

The Master's Final Project (TFM) must be submitted in PDF format to each member of the assessment committee and to the secretary of the Department of Catalan Philology at the UAB. The recommended length (excluding appendices) is between 30 and 60 pages.

The TFM must comply with the formal criteria that will be provided on the Virtual Campus of the course.

The evaluation of the TFM will be carried out according to this distribution: written work (70%) and oral presentation (30%).

The assessment committee for the Master's Thesis (TFM) will be composed of the two lecturers responsible for the TFM in the chosen track (Catalan Language or Catalan Literature)`and a third member. The committee will take into account a report written by the TFM supervisor. The weight of this report in the final grade will be specified in the assessment rubrics. The supervisor cannot be a member of the assessment committee. If the supervisor is one of the TFM lecturers, they will be replaced by another lecturer from the same track.

The oral presentation of the project must last between 20 and 30 minutes. The student must justify their work in response to the observations and questions posed by the assessment committee.

The criteria established in the assessment rubrics will be made available before the second semester.

A grade of 'not assessable' will be given if the TFM is not submitted by the established deadline.

The distinction of honours will be awarded to the TFM with the highest score above 9. In case of a tie, the average grade of the student’s master’s transcript will be taken into account.

This course does not offer the option of single (alternative) assessment.

There is no resit option for this course.

If a student commits any irregularity that may lead to a significant alteration of the grade of an assessment activity, that activity will be graded with a 0, regardless of any disciplinary proceedings that may be initiated. If multiple irregularities occur in the assessment activities of the same course, the final grade for the course will be 0.

If in-person examinations cannot be held, their format will be adapted (while maintaining the original weighting) to the possibilities offered by the UAB’s virtual tools. Tasks, activities, and class participation will take place via forums, wikis, and/or discussion sessions through Teams, ensuring all students have access.

This subject allows the use of AI technologies exclusively for support tasks such as literature review, information retrieval and processing, and data quantification tasks. The inclusion of AI-generated text in the Master’s Thesis (TFM) is strictly prohibited, as is the use of AI-generated materials during the oral defense. In the case of subjects in a Modern Languages degree, use of translation must be specifically authorised by the teacher. Other specific situations may be contemplated, as deemed appropriate by the teacher. The student must clearly (i) identify which parts have been generated using AI technology; (ii) specify the tools used; and (iii) include a critical reflection on how these have influenced the process and final outcome of the activity. Lack of transparency regarding the use of AI in the assessed activity will be considered academic dishonesty; the corresponding grade may be lowered, or the work may even be awarded a zero. In cases of greater infringement, more serious action may be taken.
