The course is structured in three types of training activities: theory classes, laboratory sessions and external visits. These activities are carried out at three levels:

Guided activities: theory sessions (one two-hour session per week) and laboratory sessions (one hour per week in small groups) guided by the teacher.

Supervised activities: monitoring of laboratory sessions in person or virtually and external visits to institutions related to the production and/or analysis of demographic and socioeconomic information.

Autonomous activities: completion of the exercices, preparation of the written tests, study of the theoretical contents and lectures.

Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Students are asked to use non-sexist language. The usage guidelines from UAB (see Ten Tips for Non-Sexist Language Use) may be helpful.

Single assessment

This subject/module does not provide for the single assessment system.

Assessment system

The assessment will consist of:

• Two written tests, 25% of the final mark each test, 50% of the final mark.
• Exercises and reports from practical sessions (PAL), 40% of the final mark.
• Report on external visits (VEXT), 10% of the final mark.
• External visits form part of the scheduled activities of the subject. However, for students who justify their inability to attend one of the visits, a substitute assignment will be provided.
• All assessed activities will be marked from 0 to 10 points.

Criteria for passing the subject

• The final mark for the subject will be the weighted average of all activities subject to assessment.
• For the average of the two written tests to be taken into account for the purposes of passing the subject, the minimum mark obtained in each of them must be equal to or higher than 4 out of 10. If one of the two written tests receives a mark below 4, that test must be retaken. If both written tests receive a mark below 4, both must be retaken.
• The subject will be considered passed when the above requirements are met simultaneously and the final weighted mark is equal to or higher than 5 points out of 10.

Format for carrying out practical activities

• The report on external activities (VEXT) and the general practical assignment will preferably be carried out in groups of two or three people. Exceptionally, and with prior authorisation from the teaching staff, they may be carried out individually.
• Short practical activities or exercises will be carried out individually.

Late submissions and absences from written tests

• Submission of exercises or reports after the deadline will be classified as "Not submitted" and will receive a mark of 0.
• An unjustified absence from one of the written tests will be classified as "Not submitted" and will receive a mark of 0. This test may only be retaken in the final written resit test if the student meets the requirements established for access to the resit.

Review procedure

• All assessed activities will be subject to review of marks. Students will be informed of the corresponding date in each case via the Moodle classroom.

Not assessable and incomplete activities

• For the purpose of determining the classification of "Not assessable", the two written tests and the block of exercises and reports from practical sessions (PAL) will be considered the main assessable activities.
• Only students who do not complete any main assessable activity, or who complete only one over the course of the semester, may be classified as "Not assessable".
• Failure to complete the report on external visits (VEXT), or the substitute assignment in the case of justified absence, will result in a mark of 0 for this activity, without prejudice to the calculation of the final weighted mark.
• If, once the resit period has ended, the student has completed two main assessable activities but has not completed the third main assessable activity provided for in the subject assessment, the student will receive a failing mark for the subject. The final numerical mark, which may under no circumstances be equal to or higher than 5.0 points, will be determined by the teaching staff responsible for the subject on the basis of the activities completed and the marks obtained.

Resit

• The resit will consist of a final written resit test for the written tests. This final test may include differentiated parts corresponding to each of the two written tests.
• To be eligible for the resit, on the date announced by the Degree teaching coordination, students must have obtained a minimum mark of 4 points out of 10 in the average of the two written tests or in the block of exercises and reports from practical sessions (PAL).
• Students may also sit the final written resit test if, despite having obtained a mark equal to or higher than 4 points in each of the two written tests, they have not achieved a final weighted mark equal to or higher than 5 out of 10, provided that they meet the requirements established for access to the resit. In this case, the teaching staff will determine which part or parts of the final written resit test the student must take.
• If the student has obtained a mark below 4 points in only one of the two written tests, they will only have to retake that test. If they have obtained a mark below 4 points in both written tests, they will have to retake both.
• The mark obtained in the resit test will replace the mark of the written test retaken. Practical activities (PAL) and the report on external visits (VEXT) cannot be retaken. Students may not sit the resit to improve their mark if they have already passed the subject.

Honours distinction

• The mention of "Matrícula d’Honor" may be awarded to students who obtain a mark equal to or higher than 9. The number of such mentions may not exceed five per cent of the students enrolled in a subject in the corresponding academic year.
• Repeating students are not subject to any differentiated treatment in their assessment.

Academic integrity, plagiarism and use of Artificial Intelligence

• Copying or plagiarising material, whether in reports or in written tests, will be considered a serious academic irregularity and may result in failing the subject.
• In this subject, the use of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies is not permitted in any phase, unless expressly authorised by the teaching staff. Any work that includes fragments generated with AI without authorisation will be considered a breach of academic honesty and may result in a partial or total penalty in the mark for the activity, or more serious sanctions in serious cases.
• If the student commits any irregularity that may lead to a significant variation in the mark of an assessment activity, that assessment activity will be marked as 0, regardless of any disciplinary proceedings that may be initiated. If several irregularities occur in assessment activities for the same subject, the final mark for the subject will be 0.
