Objectives
The subject Ús de la lengua francesa oral is part of the basic subjects of the students of the degree English and Franch degree.
The set of the activities that will be carried out in the course Ús de la lengua francesa oral are directed to expression and oral comprehension. The contents discussed in this subject are equally aimed at providing students with the necessary tools for accessing the contents of the linguistic, literary and cultural subjects planned from the second semester.
Learning outcomes
- Effectively communicating and applying the argumentative and textual processes to formal and scientific texts.
- Distinguish the distinct levels of linguistic analysis and establish relationships between them.
- Learn to interrelate linguistic knowledge among distinct languages.
- Work independently in the study of French language, literature and culture.
- Maintain an attitude of respect for the opinions, values, behaviors and practices of others.
- Correctly produce texts of distinct types, applying their linguistic and discursive specificities at an independent-user level (B2).
- Express, orally and in writing, opinions or content in French with precision and clarity at an independent-user level (B2).
- Maintain a conversation appropriate to the level of the interlocutor at an independent-user level (B2).
- Critically taking part in classroom oral debates and using the discipline's specific vocabulary at an independent-user level (B2).
- Correctly pronounce in French language at an independent-user level (B2).
- Know how to interpret the meaning of a text in French at an independent-user level (B2).
- Apply appropriate and thoughtfully prescriptive principles of oral and written standard French.
Contents
The aim of this subject is to develop a series of not only linguistic but also socio-cultural competences as an aptitude to learn to learn. The development of these competencies will be done through the oral practice of the language that encompasses all its aspects (communicative, grammatical, lexical, phonetic ...).
The different functional, linguistic and cultural objectives will be structured in around three main axes: description, narration and argumentation. At the same time, sessions will be held phonetic correction aimed at sensitizing the rhythm and prosody of the French language as well as different activities of pronunciation and hearing discrimination.
Some of the competences that the student will achieve are the following:
- Describe people, physical and physical states and describe objects, situations and actions.
- Locate and place in space.
- Narrate and ask about a past event or event.
- Compare the present and the past.
- Express ignorance or knowledge of a fact.
- Express agreement, disagreement and preferences
- Ask and express the meaning of a word or expression.
- Make short and prepared exhibitions
- Be able to understand non-manipulated (authentic) audiovisual or written documents in French

Ús de la lengua francesa oral is an instrumental and essentially practical subject. The emphasis on the training activities will be put into the active participation of the students in order to achieve the competences provided in this teaching guide.
In general terms, learning will be directed through the following set of techniques and actions:
- Practice of oral expression in French
- Exercise individual and group exercises (dictations, exercises of phonetic discrimination, debates, dialogues, oral expositions on specific subjects, etc ...)
- Autonomous activities: preparation of tests, readings, information search ...
- Classroom exchanges (teacher-student, student-student)
- Oral and oral comprehension tests

Assessment
Assessment of the course will be continuous and will take into account the work carried out throughout the semester, including both the different tests and the assignments submitted. This course does not provide for a single-assessment system.
At the time of each assessment activity, the teaching staff will inform students (via Moodle) of the procedure and the date for reviewing marks.
A student will receive a “Not assessed” grade if they have submitted less than 30% of the assigned coursework and completed less than 30% of the tests. Consequently, students who have completed more than 30% of each component will be assessed.
Resit
Resit opportunities will only be offered to students who, having followed the continuous assessment, have failed one or more tests and/or have not submitted some assignments. These may be resat or submitted provided that at least two thirds (2/3) of the assigned work has been handed in and a minimum mark of 3.5/10 has been obtained.
Certain activities are not eligible for resit, such as class participation and in-class exercises.
The format of the resit will depend on the part of the course to be recovered and may consist of either an in-person test or the submission of an assignment.
Irregularities and academic integrity
If a student commits any irregularity that may lead to a significant alteration in the grade of an assessment activity, that activity will be graded 0, regardless of any disciplinary proceedings that may be initiated.
If multiple irregularities are detected in the assessment activities of the same course, the final grade for the course will be 0.
In this course, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies is not permitted at any stage. Any assignment containing AI-generated content will be considered a breach of academic integrity and will result in a grade of 0 for the activity, with no possibility of resit, and may lead to further sanctions in serious cases.
Specific cases
Francophone students must comply with the same assessment requirements as all other students.
Responsibility for following the learning and assessment activities lies solely with the student.
Erasmus students who request to sit an exam in advance must present the teaching staff with an official document from their home university justifying the request.
