Objectives
GENERAL
Provide a theoretical and practical knowledge that allows students to acquire information skills related to the organization and document management, as well as the resolution of information needs specific to the journalistic activity.
SPECIFIC
- Knowing the instrumental dimension of the Information Science (Documentation), as well as the utility of its techniques and services in the professional practice and for the qualitative improvement of the journalistic product.
- Show what are the most common information needs in the journalistic task and learn to solve them by using information sources.
- Know how to apply, in a basic way, techniques of analysis, description and management of journalistic documents.
- Know different types of services, resources and sources of information, specially the most indicated ans useful for the practice of journalism.
- Acquire advanced knowledge of information search and retrieval in digital environments.
- Know how to assess the quality and reability of the documentary information and promote its ethical and legal use.
- Learn to be documented, that is, to be provided with relevant, reliable and rigorous information for the preparation of journalistic products.

Journalistic Documentation is an eminently practical course that focuses on learning through the application of theoretical concepts to solving real-world information retrieval cases. These activities, always contextualized within scenarios typical of journalism and communication, allow students to grasp the utility and crucial role that documentary techniques play in their future profession.
The planned practical activities will preferably be carried out in pairs and, in some cases, in groups. Attendance at group work sessions is mandatory. Some group activities will require an oral presentation.
The detailed calendar with the content of the different sessions will be presented on the first day of the course and will also be available on the course's Virtual Campus, where students can find the various teaching materials deemed necessary by the faculty and all the information required for the proper follow-up of the course.
In the event of a change in the teaching modality due to force majeure, as determined by the competent authorities, the faculty will inform students of any changes to the course schedule and teaching methodologies.
The course integrates a gender perspective and the use of inclusive language throughout its content, aiming to promote equitable communication practices that respect diversity.
Teaching satisfaction surveys: 15 minutes of a class session, within the established calendar, will be reserved for students to complete the evaluations regarding both the teaching staff's performance and the course itself.

Assessment system: This course follows a continuous assessment system and does not offer a single/final assessment option. There is no synthesis examination for students enrolled for the second time.
To pass the course, a final grade of at least 5 points (out of 10) is required. The continuous assessment components are as follows:
Classroom practice (10%): Continuous assessment requires the completion of at least 70% of the exercises. Attendance at practical sessions is mandatory.
Individual theoretical-practical test (40%).
Group exercises (50%): The number and specific weighting of each exercise will be detailed at the beginning of the course.
Non-assessable status: Students who have not completed 70% of the scheduled classroom practices or half of the group exercises will be considered "non-assessable" (no avaluable), and this will be reflected in their final grade.
Recovery: Students are entitled to a resit for the course if they have been assessed on a set of activities whose combined weight represents at least two-thirds of the total course grade. The assessable items eligible for resit are: the individual theoretical-practical test and the group exercises.
Plagiarism: Should a student commit any irregularity that may lead to a significant variation in the grade of an assessment activity, that activity will be graded as 0, regardless of any disciplinary proceedings that may be initiated. In the event of multiple irregularities occurring in the assessment acts of a single course, the final grade for the course will be 0.
Use of AI: In this course, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies is permitted exclusively for tasks explicitly indicated by the faculty. Students must clearly identify which parts have been generated using this technology, specify the tools used, and include a critical reflection on how they influenced the process and the final outcome of the activity. Failure to be transparent regarding the use of AI in an assessable activity will be considered a breach of academic integrity and may result in a partial or total grade penalty, or more severe sanctions in serious cases.
For any student suspected of submitting tasks generated by AI, produced by others, copied, including AI-generated content without proper citation, or falling outside permitted uses, the faculty may request preparatory work or other materials to demonstrate that the work is original and the result of the student’s own authorship. Students may also be required to explain or justify their work separately. The faculty reserves the right to use AI-detection systems or carry out any verification procedures deemed appropriate. If irregularities are detected after review, the work may be graded as 0, and the student may be subject to further disciplinary measures.
