Prerequisites

The student has had to acquire basic skills in all preclinical subjects.


The student will acquire the commitment to preserve the confidentiality and professional secrecy of the data that they may have access to due to learning in healthcare services. Also they will have to maintain an attitude of professional ethics in all his actions.

Objectives

This subject is programmed in the 5th year of the Degree in Medicine when the student has already acquired the basic knowledge about the structure and function of the human body, on the physiopathological bases of health and disease and has also known certain aspects of the pathology of the human body. adult in its medical and surgical aspects, particularly those related to obstetrics.


The general objective is to know the normal development and the nutritional, affective and social needs of the child from birth to adulthood, emphasizing the different stages of evolution: newborn, lactating, school and adolescent.


The specific objectives are to know the physical examination of the child as well as the different diseases, incidence, clinical presentation and treatment in each of the stages discussed above.

  9. Distinguish specific clinical manifestations of the most common diseases in each of the different stages of development: newborn (premature and term), breastfeeding, childhood, puberty and adolescence.
  10. Identify normal patterns of growth and development from birth to adulthood.
  11. Perform well-child medical history in each of the different stages of development: newborn (premature and term), breastfeeding, childhood, puberty and adolescence.
  12. Make medical history and diagnostic orientation of the major diseases affecting children in each of the different stages of development: newborn (premature and term), breastfeeding, childhood, puberty and adolescence.
  13. Perform physical examination of the healthy child in each of the different stages of development: newborn (premature and term), breastfeeding, childhood, puberty and adolescence.
  14. Perform physical examination and diagnostic orientation of the major diseases affecting children in each of the different stages of development: newborn (premature and term), breastfeeding, childhood, puberty and adolescence.
  15. Explain the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures of the most common diseases in each of the different stages of development: newborn (premature and term), breastfeeding, childhood, puberty and adolescence.
  16. Differential diagnosis of major diseases affecting children in each of the different stages of development: newborn (premature and term), breastfeeding, childhood, puberty and adolescence.
  17. Organize nutrition and child dietary.

Clinical Practices


1. Clinical Practices (PCA): They are carried out in groups of 2 students. Total: 54.75 hours. Students will go to the facilities of the hospitalization wards, outpatient clinics, pediatric emergency department, neonatology or pediatric intensive care.


2. Advanced Clinical Simulation Practices (PSCA): They are carried out in small groups with 2 professors-tutors. Total: 4 hours per student.


INDEPENDENT ACTIVITIES


Comprehensive reading of texts and articles, study and creation of diagrams, summary and conceptual assimilation of the contents. 100 hours

This Guide describes the framework, contents, methodology and general rules of the subject, in accordance with the current curriculum. The final organization of the subject in terms of the number and size of groups, distribution of topics in the calendar and exam dates, specific evaluation criteria and exam review, will be specified in each of the Hospital Teaching Units (UDH), which will make it explicit through their websites and on the first day of class of each subject, through the professors responsible for the subject at the UDH.

In certain exceptional circumstances, at the discretion of the teachers and also depending on the resources availableand the public health situation, some of the theoretical classes, practicals and seminars organized by the Teaching Units may be taught either in person or virtually.


Note: 15 minutes of a class will be reserved, within the calendar established by the center/degree, for students to complete the surveys to evaluate the performance of the teaching staff and to evaluate the subject.

Annotation: within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

The relative weight of the practical and theoretical evaluation is 30% and 70% respectively.


1. Practical evaluation. It may include:

a. Clinical history

b. Physical exam

c. Complementary tests

d. Interpretation of clinical cases


Attendance at practicals is mandatory. In order to evaluate the skills acquired during teaching in seminars and practicals, any absence must be justified.


2.- Evaluation of theory and seminars. It includes:

a. Theoretical knowledge: short or medium length questions and/or multiple-choice questions (depending on the teaching unit).

b. In the partial exams to release the subject, a 6 out of 10 mark will be required.


Two partial exams will be held, each of which will represent 50% of the final theoretical grade.


3.- Final grade

Weighted sum of the practical assessment (30%) and the theoretical knowledge (70%).


It is essential to pass the two partial exams separately in order to pass the subject. Students who have not passed the subject through continuous assessment may take a retake exam. If the retake exam is not passed, the grade for the practices cannot be added to achieve a pass.


4.- Exam review system

The exam review will be done individually with the student within the established deadlines.


5.- Students who do not take both the theoretical and practical assessment tests will be considered as Not assessable, exhausting their rights to register for the subject.


This subject does not provide for the single assessment system.


The commission of any irregularity in an assessment act (academic fraud, plagiarism or improper use of AI, unless this use is expressly authorized in the teaching guide), which may lead to a significant variation in the grade, means that this act will be graded with a 0. In the event that the teaching guide provides that in order to pass the subject it is an essential requirement to have obtained a minimum grade in this assessment act or that several irregularities occur in the assessment acts of the same subject, the final grade for this subject is 0. Apart from this, a disciplinary process may be initiated against the student who incurs any of these irregularities.
