Objectives
economic and social agent, to analyse its characteristics, legal forms and relationship with the environment, and to interpret basic decisions on investment, financing and economic viability. It also seeks for them to identify the key elements of the productive function, costs and productivity.
At the same time, it intends to relate business decisions to the organisation of work, employment and working conditions; to develop the ability to analyse real-life situations through case studies; to foster a critical perspective on business change, innovation, sustainability and social responsibility; and to integrate knowledge of business economics to understand how organisations function and their impact on workers, with decision-making grounded in data and evidence.

The module will integrate the theoretical and practical elements set out in the syllabus through a combination of the following methodological approaches:
• Presentation of theoretical content in the form of lectures, covering the key aspects linked to the learning outcomes.
• Work on theoretical-practical case studies, including discussion and analysis that promote challenge-based learning and critical thinking.
• Student participation, individually and/or in groups, through activities and presentations on specific concepts.

The minimum mark for the average of tests/examinations must be 4 out of 10. In the event that a student, through the continuous assessment system, obtains a mark equal to or higher than 5, but without achieving the minimum mark of 4 in the aforementioned item, and does not sit the resit examination, the final mark obtained will be 4.8 – Fail (and this will be recorded on the academic transcript).
Assessment items which, individually, do not exceed 20% of the final module grade shall not be subject to rescheduling, regardless of the accredited reason. For cases where these items exceed 20%, the current regulations of the Faculty and the University shall apply. It is recalled that examinations at other institutions (except those leading to public civil service bodies), pre-scheduled medical appointments and travel are not included among the established grounds for rescheduling.
Dates for assessment activities and submissions will be published on the Moodle Classroom (Virtual Campus) and may be subject to scheduling changes to adapt to possible incidents. Changes to activity dates within the working days of the academic calendar do not give rise to rescheduling rights (except as provided for in regulations). Students will always be informed on the Moodle Classroom about these changes, as this is understood to be the usual platform for information exchange between teaching staff and students.
Anyone who has not sat any assessment activity will be considered “Not assessable”.
Honours Registrations (Matrícula d’Honor) will be awarded at the discretion of the teaching team to students who obtain a minimum final mark of 9.5.
Retake examination: The minimum mark to sit the module resit examination is 3.5 out of 10 in the final module grade. The retake will consist of a single assessable test. If this test is failed, the final module grade will remain as it was before the resit; if it is passed, the mark will be 5 out of 10.
Use of artificial intelligence: the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies is permitted exclusively for support tasks, such as bibliographic or information searches, and text correction or translations. The student must clearly identify which parts have been generated with this technology, specify the tools used and include a critical reflection on how these have influenced the process and the final outcome of the activity. Lack of transparency regarding the use of AI in this will be considered a serious offence and may result in a partial or total penalty on the activity grade, and/or more severe sanctions in cases of greater gravity.
Without prejudice to other disciplinary measures deemed appropriate, and in accordance with current academic regulations, irregularities committed by a student which may lead to a variation in the grade will be marked with zero (0). For example, plagiarism, copying, allowing copying, using AI without specifying (in writing) its use, etc., in an assessment activity will result in failing that assessment activity with a 0. Assessment activities graded in this way and by this procedure will not be subject to retakes. If it is necessary to pass any of these assessment activities to pass the module, the module will be failed directly, with no opportunity to retake it in the same academic year.
