Prerequisites
In order to introduce the students in the current historiography tendencies that are derived from historical studies, the students must have previous knowledge of History in general, from Ancient history to the Contemporary era.
Objectives
The main objective of the subject is to train students in the knowledge of current historiographical trends and attend to their own historical genealogies in the past. In this sense, the foundations of the birth of history as a narrative and discipline of knowledge will be addressed, and the temporal conceptions in which it is inscribed.
At the same time, the major current interpretative trends will be located within the framework of the historiographical reflections generated from antiquity to the emergence of the project of modernity, straddling the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, in order to understand the bases from which it starts our science, its meaning within social and cultural constructions and its dual nature of narrative and form of knowledge.
Starting from this base, the subject will deal with the great schools and historiographical trends that have marked the development of the discipline, from historical materialism or historicism to postmodernism. All this should allow us to produce a reflection on the historical interpretations and methodologies that are used both in the field of research and in the teaching of history.

Assistance to lectures led by the teacher.
Historiographical debates directed by the professor on central themes of modern and contemporary historiography (oral presentations in discussion groups), for example: social history/gender debates, nature of political regimes, interpretations of social phenomena such as State, nation, etc.

Personal study
The teaching methodology and the evaluation proposed in the guide may undergo some modification subject to the onsite teaching restrictions imposed by health authorities.
Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Assessment activities will be scheduled throughout the academic year. Dates for in-class tests and for submitting assignments and reviews will be communicated to students well in advance. The professor will establish a specific office schedule to discuss completed assessment activities. Written tests will account for 50% of the final grade, and students must pass at least these tests to pass the course. Assignments (50% of the grade) may include essays or book reviews (20%), and commentaries on historical documents, which may include oral presentations and historiographical debates (30%). The specific format of the assignments will be explained on the first day of class and will also be posted on the Virtual Campus.
Spelling Guidelines As an initiative of the History degree's teaching committee, starting in the 2017-2018 academic year, a clause regarding spelling, expression, vocabulary, and syntax in written documents for continuous assessment and exams may be included in the course syllabi. In accordance with our degree's written expression guidelines, the penalty may range from 0.2 to 0.25 points deducted from the final grade for each error, up to a maximum deduction of 4 points.
The assessment schedule may not be modified (except in justified exceptional cases).
Erasmus students requesting to take an exam earlier must submit a written document from their home university to the professor justifying their request.
Students who do not take all scheduled assessment exams or who do not participate in mandatory assessment activities worth more than 30% of the final grade will receive a grade of "Not Assessable" and will not be eligible for the resit.
Any irregularity committed by a student during an exam (copying, plagiarism) will result in a grade of zero for that specific section of the assessment. Multiple irregularities will result in an overall grade of zero.
In this course, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies is not permitted at any stage. Any work that includes AI-generated components will be considered academic dishonesty and will result in a grade of zero, with no possibility of retaking the assignment, or more severe penalties in cases of serious misconduct.
The retake will consist of a comprehensive exam covering the course material and will be held on the official dates established by the Faculty.
To participate in the retake, students must have been previously assessed on a set of activities whose weight is equivalent to at least two-thirds of the total grade (continuous assessment) or submit all the required assessments (single assessment).
To be eligible to participate in the retake, a minimum grade point average of 2.5 is required.
Individual written assignments and group oral presentations are excluded from the make-up exam.
Students who are unable to attend classes or participate in the course in person, and who can provide justification for their absence, may be offered a specific assessment plan, which each instructor will determine.
Grade Review Procedure: At the time of each assessment activity, the instructor will inform students (via Moodle) of the procedure and date for grade review.
Single Assessment Option: If Gestió Acadèmica allows students to take a single assessment, it will be based on a single submission date for the assessment materials. These materials will be as follows:
- Submission of an assignment: 40% of the final grade
- Content exam: 30% of the final grade
- Text commentary: 30% of the final grade.
