Prerequisites
It is recommended to have attended the subjects "L'Època de la Reforma" and "L'Època del Barroc".
Objectives
The subject aims to give a global view of the History of the Eighteenth century, paying special attention to the History of Europe. The phenomenon of the Enlightenment, considered in a broad sense, is the core and thread of the agenda. Precisely with the explanation of this agenda and the participation of the students (through exercises and programmed readings) it is intended to facilitate the fundamental elements to acquire an adequate knowledge of the main events and the problems of the period; as well as to stimulate the interest by the direct contact with the texts of time and by the knowledge of the main guidelines of the current historiography.

Assessment
Continuous assessment activities
| Title | Weight | Hours | ECTS | Learning outcomes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Exams (2) | 60% | 2 | 0.08 | 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11 |
| Oral presentation | 15% | 2 | 0.08 | 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 12 |
| Paper or papers | 25% | 2 | 0.08 | 3, 4, 6, 10, 11, 12 |
-Throughout the course, students will have to carry out a series of assessable activities: an oral presentation, which will be worth 15% of the final grade; two written exams, which will be worth 60% (two tests, 30% each); one or more written works (of a bibliographic nature, text commentaries or other activities), which, in total, will be worth 25% of the final grade.
-Assessment activities will be scheduled throughout the academic year. The dates for completing the activities and submitting assignments will be communicated to students well in advance.
-If the teachers supervising the written exams deem it appropriate, they may require the students to prove their identity using their student ID card, national identity card, foreign resident's card or passport.
-Students will have the right to review their results. At the time of each assessment activity or submission, the instructor will inform students (via Moodle or SIA) of the procedure and date for grade review.
-Individual cases that, with due justification, require special consideration will be taken into account. However, the assessment schedule cannot be modified except in exceptional and duly justified circumstances. Furthermore, Erasmus or other exchange students requesting to take an exam earlier must submit a written document from their home university to the instructor justifying the request.
-In all assessment activities, special consideration will be given to: a) students' ability to critically evaluate the social and economic models of the 18th century, b) the appropriate use of vocabulary specific of the 18th century and c) the correct use of the discipline's vocabulary.
-If a student commits any irregularity that could significantly affect the grade of an assessment activity, that activity will receive a grade of 0, regardless of any disciplinary proceedings that may be initiated. If several irregularities occur in the assessment activities of the same subject, the final grade for the subject will be 0.
-In written assignments, spelling, syntax, and vocabulary errors will be penalized. Each error will result in a penalty of 0.1 points on the final grade. Repeated errors may result in a maximum penalty of 10% of the grade for the assignment.
-In the event that the exams cannot be held in person, their format will be adapted (maintaining the same weighting) to the possibilities offered by the UAB's virtual tools. Assignments, activities, and class participation will be carried out through forums, wikis, and/or exercise discussions via Teams, guaranteeing access for all students.
-This course allows the use of artificial intelligence as an additional tool, with the value of consulted bibliography, provided that the student specifies which parts of their work were carried out with its help and that it contributes significantly to the majority of the written work submitted.
Single Assessment
-This course offers the option of a single assessment. Students must formally request it during the period established by the Faculty.
-The single assessment will consist of two evaluative activities: 60% (two written exams covering the entire syllabus, each worth 30%), 40% (one or more written assignments).
-The same system used for continuous assessment will be applied to the reassesment.
Reassessment
-Students must have been previously assessed on a set of activities whose weight is equivalent to at least two-thirds of the total grade (CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT), or have submitted all the required assessments (SINGLE ASSESSMENT). Otherwise, they will be marked as "NOT ASSESSABLE" and will not be eligible to take the reassessment .
-To participate in the reassessment process, a minimum grade point average of 3.5 is required for the course.
-The professor can exclude certain activities, from the reassessment process, such as oral presentations, group projects, or tasks related to daily teaching activities.
-The reassessment will consist of a comprehensive exam covering the course content and will be held on the official dates established by the Faculty. Under no circumstances may the reassessment be used to improve the grade of a student who has already passed the course through the regular continuous assessment process.
If, due to unforeseen and justified circumstances, it is necessary to modify the asessment procedure described in this guide and/or the dates of the evaluation calendar, the professor will present and discuss the modification with the affected group. The decision must be communicated through the Virtual Campus with sufficient advance notice.
