Prerequisites

The students of this subject are enrolled in the master's psychosocial intervention pathway.

Objectives

The objective of this mandatory subject for the Psychosocial and Community Intervention specialty is for students to know the main frameworks of understanding from which interventions in the psychosocial field are planned and executed. Likewise, the theoretical, legal and public policy frameworks that govern actions and different plans and programs are explored with respect to problems related to the life cycle, social ordering systems and coexistence.

Learning outcomes

  • CA06 (Develop the most relevant aspects of theoretical perspectives suitable for psychosocial intervention in a specific field of work.) Develop the most relevant aspects of theoretical perspectives suitable for psychosocial intervention in a specific field of work.
  • CA07 (Clearly present the theoretical frameworks relevant to approaching a specific problem in an explanatory manner.) Clearly present the theoretical frameworks relevant to approaching a specific problem in an explanatory manner.
  • KA05 (Identify suitable theoretical perspectives for psychosocial intervention in a specific field of work.) Identify suitable theoretical perspectives for psychosocial intervention in a specific field of work.
  • KA06 (Critically appraise the assumptions and limitations of the theoretical perspectives used in psychosocial intervention in a specific field of work.) Critically appraise the assumptions and limitations of the theoretical perspectives used in psychosocial intervention in a specific field of work.
  • SA05 (Actively participate in working teams whose objective is the analysis of theoretical perspectives in the field of psychosocial intervention.) Actively participate in working teams whose objective is the analysis of theoretical perspectives in the field of psychosocial intervention.

Contents

  • Theoretical and methodological perspectives in the field of psychosocial and community intervention.

The face-to-face sessions for this subject are organised, on the one hand, around theoretical frameworks and models of social and community intervention and, on the other, around descriptions of professional practice provided by practitioners from different fields. Each session is structured around a specific area of intervention through presentations, workshops and discussions. Thus, each session will be led by professionals from different fields: child and youth psychology, ageing, a social services psychologist, those responsible for monitoring a neighbourhood’s community revitalisation plan, and the coordinator of an intercultural educational inclusion programme.

The students, organised into teams, will analyse the intervention models based on various key themes, drawing on the contributions of the different professionals.

Each student will develop the theoretical framework for their Master’s thesis based on the theoretical models studied.

Annotation: within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Assessment

Continuous assessment activities

Title Weight Hours ECTS Learning outcomes
Ev1. Development of the theoretical framework of an intervention area 50% 0 0 CA06, CA07, KA05, KA06
Ev2. Analysis of examples of social and community intervention 10% 0 0 CA07, KA05, KA06
Ev3. PBL group projects in areas of intervention 40% 0 0 CA07, KA05, KA06, SA05

EV1. Individual assignment on the development of a theoretical framework relating to a specific area of intervention. This assignment will form the basis for the article that the student will submit at the end of the Master’s programme. It is to be submitted at the end of the term.

EV2. Participation in the discussion and analysis of examples of intervention from epistemological, theoretical, methodological, technological and relational perspectives. This will be assessed based on a classroom activity.

EV3. Team-based analysis using the Problem-Based Learning methodology, based on problems raised by each professional from their respective fields of work.

Qualifications (both for continuous assessment and single assessment):

  • Passed subject: The subject will be considered passed if the student obtains an average grade equal to or higher than 5 in each of the three evaluation evidences.
  • Evaluable: The student who has presented evidence of learning with a weight equal to or greater than 40% of the total of the subject will be considered Evaluable.
  • Non-evaluable: It will be considered Non-evaluable if, even if the student has presented several tests, the total weight related to the subject as a whole is less than 40%.
  • Re-evaluation: There is no re-evaluation
  • Single assessment: This will take place on the day of the final submission of the work on the theoretical framework. All content will be assessed. A personal assignment developing the theoretical framework for an area of intervention (Ev1) will be submitted, and an oral examination will be held to present the analysis of an assigned intervention example, based on the different lines of analysis (Ev2). A portfolio will be submitted containing the results of the problems set by the professionals, which will be available in advance on Moodle (Ev3).

Return: For EV1, initial feedback on the draft will be provided during the final class session, organised as a collaborative tutorial during week 16. Feedback will be provided at the students’ request after the final mark has been awarded, during week 22. Feedback on EV2 will be given in class during week 8, following the discussion held. Feedback on Evidence 3 will take the form of comments via Moodle on each of the five group assignments completed by students, to be provided no later than fifteen days after each of the five submission deadlines, so that by week 15 all feedback on this evidence will have been provided.

In this subject, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies is allowed as an integral part of the development of the work, provided that the final result reflects a significant contribution by the student in the analysis and personal reflection. The student must clearly identify which parts have been generated or reviewed with this technology, specify the tools used, and include a critical reflection on how these have influenced the process and the final result of the activity. The lack of transparency in the use of AI, the failure to verify the certainty of the statements offered by the AI, the citation of non-existent bibliographical references or the use of data generated by the AI will be considered a lack of academic honesty and will lead to a penalty in the grade of the activity, or greater sanctions in serious cases.
