Prerequisites

As this is a subject at the beginning of the Master's degree and common to all its branches, there are no prerequisites other than those required for access to the Master's degree.

Objectives

The aim of this subject is to provide a common basis that frames professional work in the psychosocial field. To offer an overview of the theoretical approaches and the areas of research and intervention in the psychosocial field, emphasising contemporary debates and offering tools to elaborate states of knowledge.

OBJECTIVES:

- Recognise and distinguish the principles that separate the different theoretical, epistemological and methodological approaches in the approach to psychosocial phenomena and problems.

- Analyse the ontological and epistemological frameworks that contribute to the understanding of a specific object of study and intervention.

- Develop a critical view of the psychosocial fields of research and intervention.

- Elaborate a state of the art of a field of research or social intervention in order to show its different comprehensions

As this is a subject with propaedeutic goals, the lessons will be mainly in lecture format, although students will be required to participate. In the classroom, on the one hand by raising doubts or comments, on the other hand, by participating in the debates that the teaching staff will initiate. These debates will continue virtually through the virtual classroom forum, based on the initiative of the teaching staff and the students themselves.

Annotation: within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Assessment

Continuous assessment activities

Title Weight Hours ECTS Learning outcomes
Ev3. Class attendance 20% 0 0 KA01, KA02, SA01, SA02, SA03
Ev2. Group project 30% 0 0 CA03, KA01, KA02, SA01, SA03
Ev1. Development of a thematic review (state of the art) 50% 0 0 CA01, CA02, CA03, KA01, KA02, SA01, SA02

EV1. Preparation of a thematic review: Preparation of a thematic review (state of knowledge or state of the art) of topics related to psychosocial research and intervention. In other words, a paper that shows the debates that have taken place and the current state of discussion around the chosen research or intervention topic. Preferably, and with the help of the tutor, the topic should be as close as possible to the topic of the TFM. This assignment is worth 50% of the final mark for the subject. The feedback will consist of a rubric that will be published on the 22nd week 6 at the latest.

Ev2 Group project: Presentation of a visual information capsule in the form of an infographic, video or other audiovisual format on a theory or area chosen from those included in the syllabus of the subject. In the case of a field, the phenomenon of interest must be clearly presented, identifying its limits and dimensions to be studied or intervened upon. In the case of a theory, the ethical and political implications of the chosen psychosocial theory must be discussed. This assignment is worth 30% of the final mark for the subject. The feedback will consist of a rubric that will be published on the 12th week 6 at the latest.

Ev3 Class attendance: Attendance is mandatory and accounts for 20% of the final course grade (2 points out of 10). Attendance between 90% and 100% of the 60 class hours will allow students to obtain the full 2 points. Attendance below 90% of the teaching hours will reduce this score proportionally. Please note: with attendance of fewer than 22 out of the 60 class hours, it will not be possible to pass the course, as the minimum required score of 4 out of 10 needed to calculate the average with the other assessment components would not be reached.

Assessment:

Passed: The course will be considered passed if the student gets an average grade greater than 5 in all the assessment tests. A minimum overall grade of 5 points must be obtained, as well as a score equal to or higher than 4 out of 10 in each in-person assessment activity that contributes 20% or more to the final grade of this continuous assessment system (this is the case of Ev3: class attendance).

If these requirements are not met, the maximum grade that may be recorded in the academic transcript will be 4.5 points.

Assessable: Students who have presented assessments with a weighting equal to 40% of the total course will be considered Assessable.

Non-assessable: Students who have presented several assessments, where the total weight in relation to the course as a whole is less than 40%, will be considered non-assessable (NA).

Single assessment: All the course contents will be assessed on the submission date of Evidence 1. On that day, the visual informational capsule (Ev2: 30%) will be submitted as a team project together with the other students enrolled in the single-assessment system on one of the course topics. It will be evaluated according to the criteria established for Evidence 2. The written assignment for Evidence 1 will also be submitted through the Moodle classroom (Ev1: 50%).

The class attendance grade (Ev3) will be assessed through a 20-question multiple-choice test covering the content taught in class, based on the bibliography available on Moodle for each topic.

Reassessment: There are no resit assessments.

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies is permitted in this course as an integral part of the work, provided that the final result demonstrates a substantial student contribution in terms of analysis and personal reflection. Students must clearly identify which parts were generated or reviewed using AI technology, specify the tools used, and include a critical reflection on the influence of AI on the process and final result. Failure to disclose the use of AI, failure to verify the accuracy of AI-generated statements, citation of nonexistent bibliographic references, or use of AI-generated data will be considered academic dishonesty. It will result in a severe penalty on the activity grade, which could be the total of the note of the evidence or more severe penalties in serious cases.
