Assessment

Continuous assessment activities

Title Weight Hours ECTS Learning outcomes
Debates and presentations 20 % 0 0 CM30, KM56, KM57, SM02, SM35, SM47, SM48, SM50
Team project 30 % 0 0 CM30, KM56, KM57, SM02, SM35, SM47, SM48, SM50
Participation 10% 0 0 CM30, KM56, KM57, SM02, SM35, SM47, SM48, SM50
Individual project 40 % 0 0 CM30, KM56, KM57, SM02, SM47, SM48, SM50

The final grade is calculated as the weighted sum of the assessment components:

  • Individual project: 40%
  • Group project: 30%
  • Individual assessment tasks completed in class: 20%
  • Constructive participation in class: 10%

Assessment activities will only count toward the final grade if they receive a mark of 4 or higher and if the student has submitted a set of assessment activities representing at least two-thirds (2/3) of the total course grade.

Therefore, if any assessment activity receives a mark below 4, the final grade will be a fail, and the student must take the resit assessment in order to pass the course. Likewise, if the completed assessment activities account for less than two-thirds (2/3) of the total grade, but exceed the minimum required to avoid being classified as “not assessed,” the final grade will also be a fail, and the student must take the resit assessment in order to pass the course.

To pass the course, the weighted sum of all grades must be 5 or higher.

At the time each assessment activity is carried out, the lecturer will inform students (via Moodle) of the procedure and the date for reviewing grades.

Exchange students who wish to take an exam earlier than scheduled must provide the lecturer with a written document from their home university justifying their request.

A student will receive a grade of “Not Assessed” if they have submitted no more than 30% of the assessment activities.

RESIT ASSESSMENT SYSTEM

Students will be entitled to resit assessment if they meet any of the following conditions:

  • They have not achieved the minimum grade required to pass the course, i.e., they have a final grade below 5.
  • They have received a mark below 4 in any assessment activity.
  • They have previously been assessed on a set of activities whose combined weight represents at least two-thirds (2/3) of the total course grade.

In the case of students enrolled in the course for a second time, they may take a single comprehensive assessment consisting of a final examination covering all course content. The course grade will correspond to the grade obtained in this comprehensive assessment.

PENALTIES FOR ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT

If a student commits any irregularity that may lead to a significant alteration of the grade awarded for an assessment activity, that activity will be graded 0, regardless of any disciplinary proceedings that may be initiated. If multiple irregularities occur in the assessment activities of the same course, the final grade for the course will be 0.

SINGLE ASSESSMENT

Choosing the single assessment option does not exempt students from attending classes.

The final grade is calculated as the weighted sum of two assessment components:

  • Examination covering the course content: 50%
  • Assignment on a topic agreed upon with the lecturer during a tutorial session: 50%

The same resit assessment system as for continuous assessment will apply.

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies is permitted in this course as an integral part of the development of assignments, provided that the final result reflects a significant contribution by the student in terms of analysis and personal reflection.

Students must:

(i) identify which parts of the work were generated using AI;

(ii) specify the tools used; and

(iii) include a critical reflection on how these tools influenced both the process and the final outcome of the activity.

Failure to disclose the use of AI in this assessed activity will be considered a breach of academic integrity and will result in a grade of 0 for the activity, with no possibility of resit, and may lead to more severe sanctions in serious cases.
