The teaching methodology will be based on the following activities:

• Directed activities (30%, 1.8 cr.)
• Supervised activities (15%, 0.9 cr.)
• Autonomous activities (50%, 3 cr.)
• Assessment activities (5%, 0.3 cr.)

Annotation: within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

The final grade will be calculated as follows:

• Final exam: 40%
• Midterm: 20%
• Writing assignment: 15%
• Homework, in-class activities, and progression: 25%

All assessment dates will be provided to the students at the beginning of the semester.

Please note:

1. The final exam is not a second midterm; that is, it will include all the content covered in the course.
2. In order to sit the final exam, the student must have handed in or completed two-thirds of the continuous assessment tasks.
3. Students will obtain a “Not assessed/Not submitted” course grade unless they have submitted more than 30% of the assessment items.
4. The level of English will be taken into account in the correction of written work and in the final evaluation. It will represent 15% of the grade.
5. In the event of a student committing any irregularity (cheating, plagiarism, use of AI, etc.) that may lead to a significant variation in the grade awarded, the student will be given a zero for this activity, regardless of any other disciplinary process that may take place. In this case, the activity will not have the possibility of reassessment. In the event of a second irregularity in assessment activities, the student will be given a zero as the final grade for this subject.
6. This subject entirely prohibits the use of AI technologies in all of its activities. Any submitted work that contains content generated using AI will be considered academic dishonesty; the corresponding grade awarded will be a zero, without the possibility of reassessment. In cases of greater infringement, more serious action may be taken.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR EXCHANGE STUDENTS (ERASMUS, etc.) regarding assessment activities

Exchange students (Erasmus and others) who request to bring forward an exam or any other type of assessment activity must present the teacher with an official document from their home university justifying their request.

Procedure for Reviewing Grades Awarded

On carrying out each evaluation activity, lecturers will inform students (on Moodle) of the procedures to be followed for reviewing all grades awarded and the date on which such a review will take place.

Students will be given their grades within three weeks of the hand-in date for all continuous assessment activities.

The final average grade will be communicated to students at least 72 hours before the reassessment exam date.

Reassessment

Reassessment for this subject requires a content-synthesis test for which the following conditions are applicable:

• To access re-assessment, students must have been assessed in activities worth at least two-thirds of the total continuous assessment grade and have obtained an overall continuous assessment average of at least 3.5.
• A final average of 4.9 rounds up to 5 and does not require re-assessment.

Evaluation Activities Excluded from Reassessment

The following activities are not eligible for reassessment: the writing activity and homework and in-class activities. Activities in which there has been some irregularity will also be excluded from reassessment.

Single assessment option

Students who opt for this evaluation system will sit a final exam on the same day as the rest of the group (60%) and will have to hand in a recording of an oral presentation and written commentary on an article assigned by the teacher (20%), as well as complete a semantic and pragmatic analysis of a text (20%).

To participate in the reassessment process, the student must have completed all three assessment activities and have received a grade of 3.5 or higher on the final exam.

Reassessment requires a content-synthesis test. The oral presentation and linguistic analysis are excluded from reassessment.
