There isn't any requirement to enrol in this subject.

The teaching team recommends that you have completed and achieved the following subjects: Human Anatomy I and II, Function of the Human Body, Biophysics and Biomechanics, Foundations of Physiotherapy, Scientific Methodology, Pathological Clinical Concepts and Clinical and Instrumental Evaluation in Physiotherapy of the Locomotor System

Objectives

The subject of "Physiotherapy Therapeutics Techniques in Phyiotherapy of the  Locomotor System" belongs to the group of subjects of Physiotherapy in Locomotor System Diseases. It starts in the second course of the Physiotherapy Degree.

The objectives of the subject:

- To learn the techniques of physiotherapy to apply to the patients.

- To acquire the necessary knowledge in physiotherapy in order to solve all types of clinic cases.

- To detect and to define which are the objectives of the treatment of physiotherapy.

- To learn how to plan the treatment of physiotherapy in the diseases of the locomotor system to succeed in the objectives of the treatment.

- To acquire the ethics and professionals values that are necessaries for the clinical practice.

 

 

Learning outcomes

  1. Locate the different muscles through surface palpation.
  2. Describe and analyse human movement.
  3. Identify the physiological and structural changes that may occur as a result of physiotherapy intervention in disorders of the musculoskeletal system.
  4. Apply physiotherapy methods, procedures and interventions in the different clinical specialisations that treat conditions of the musculoskeletal system.
  5. Apply specific physiotherapy methods to promote a healthy lifestyle, in relation to the musculoskeletal system, through health education.
  6. Use physiotherapy to treat clinical cases involving musculoskeletal system conditions.
  7. Describe and apply advanced evaluation procedures in physiotherapy in order to determine the degree of damage to the musculoskeletal system and possible functional repercussions.
  8. Establish diagnostic physiotherapy hypotheses through clinical cases with disorders of the musculoskeletal system.
  9. Define general and specific objectives when using physiotherapy treatment for disorders of the musculoskeletal system.
  10. Describe the circumstances that can influence priorities when using physiotherapy to treat disorders of the musculoskeletal system.
  11. Enumerate the different types of of material and apparatus for using physiotherapy to treat disorders of the musculoskeletal system.
  12. Describe and analyse the evidence-based physiotherapy protocols for disorders of the musculoskeletal system.
  13. Describe clinical practice guidelines applied to disorders of the musculoskeletal system.
  14. Analyse and synthesise.
  15. Organise and plan.
  16. Express ideas fluently, coherently and correctly, both orally and in writing.
  17. Solve problems.
  18. Make the most correct decisions in given situations.
  19. Display critical reasoning skills.
  20. Identify situations in which a change or improvement is needed.

The teaching is based on theoretical and practical classes.


The active participation of the students will be requested both in the theoretical classes and in the practical ones.

As for the documentation provided by the teachers, the notes of the classes will only be posted on the virtual campus if the theoretical classes reach a minimum of 50% attendance, without prejudice to providing students with basic bibliography and additional material to study the topics given in class.

 

It will be a requirement for the practice:

- The student have to wear comfortable clothes that facilitate the application of the techniques to work in the classes
- Each student have to carry a sheet for the stretcher and a towel.
- The student have to meet with the hygiene standards of the health professional who will be exposed on the first day of class.

 

It is recommended that the email @uab.cat be linked to the personal email (gmail, hotmail, yahoo,...). Regular consultation of the contents and notices of the virtual campus is also recommended (it will be the preferred means of communication with students).

 

Make pictures and audio recordings in the lesson classes  (theoretical and practical classes) is forbidden without the teacher's  authorization.

Use graphic material or notes provided by teachers  outside of Moodle UAB is forbidden except to study the subject by the student.  If  an inadecuate use of this material is detected,  we will be taken the appropriate measures.               

Annotation: within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

The evaluation of the subject includes the following sections:



1. Theoretical assessment (45% of the final grade)

Final written examination (45%)

  • On-campus multiple-choice examination.
  • Covers all theoretical course content.
  • Students who pass this examination will be exempt from the resit examination.
  • The examination consists of 40 multiple-choice questions, each with four possible answers, of which one is correct.
  • Incorrect answers incur a penalty of 0.33 marks.
  • Unanswered questions receive no marks.
  • A minimum score of 5/10 is required to pass and for the grade to be included in the final mark calculation.

Resit examination (Theory)

The resit examination has the same format as the final examination:

  • 40 multiple-choice questions.
  • Four response options per question.
  • One correct answer.
  • Incorrect responses are penalised by 0.33 marks.
  • Unanswered questions receive no marks.

A minimum score of 5/10 is required to pass.

2. Practical assessment (30% of the final grade)

Structured Clinical Assessment (30%)

Students will be required to correctly perform different clinical procedures corresponding to the practical skills developed during laboratory sessions.

Assessment will consider:

  • Technical performance of clinical skills.
  • Oral clinical reasoning supporting each procedure.
  • Professional behaviour and performance while assuming the role of a physiotherapist.

A minimum mark of 5/10 is required to pass.

Practical resit examination

Students who fail the practical examination may take a practical resit examination.

The minimum passing mark is 5/10.

3. Clinical Case Seminars (25% of the final grade)

Oral and written assessment

Students will present clinical cases using multimedia support and subsequently defend their work before the teaching staff and classmates.

A minimum mark of 5/10 is required to pass.

Requirements to pass the course

Students must obtain a passing grade in each assessment component (theory, practical assessment and clinical case seminars) in order for the final grade to be calculated.

Students who fail any component must take the corresponding resit examination.

"Not Assessed" (NA)

A student will receive a grade of Not Assessed (NA) if:

  • They fail to attend any scheduled assessment activity (continuous assessment, theoretical examination or practical examination).
  • They are absent from more than 30% of the practical sessions.
  • In accordance with UAB regulations, students who complete less than 66% of the assessment activities, both theoretical and practical, will receive a Not Assessed (NA) grade and will have exhausted their enrolment rights for the course.

Attendance

Lectures

Attendance is not compulsory but is strongly recommended, as continuous assessment activities will be carried out during these sessions.

Clinical case seminars

Attendance is mandatory (100%).

Only medically justified absences supported by official documentation will be accepted.

Each unjustified absence will result in a deduction of 0.5 marks from the final course grade.

Practical sessions

Attendance is mandatory (100%).

Medically justified absences must be supported by an official medical certificate.

Each unjustified absence will result in a deduction of 0.5 marks, provided total absences do not exceed 30% of the practical sessions.

Examination review

Examination dates, times, venues and review sessions will be announced through the UAB Virtual Campus.

Review procedures will follow current UAB regulations and will be conducted individually with each student.

Following the final assessment period, students may request a review of any assessment completed during the course.

Academic integrity

Any irregularity committed during an assessment activity (including academic misconduct, plagiarism or the improper use of artificial intelligence, unless such use is explicitly authorised in the course syllabus) that may significantly affect the assessment outcome will result in a grade of 0 for that assessment.

Where passing a particular assessment is a compulsory requirement for passing the course, or where multiple irregularities occur within the same course, the final course grade will be 0.

In addition, students committing such irregularities may be subject to disciplinary proceedings in accordance with University regulations.
