Objectives
"Intervention in Health Psychology” is an elective subject of Block A of the 'Specialization in psychological intervention in quality of life'. It is taught in the 2nd semester of the 4th year by professors from the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology, specialists in public health. The subject provides methodological tools and applies technical skills for the prevention and promotion of health, from the perspectives of positive psychology, salutogènics models, and social determinants of health. Furthermore, it extensively develops prevention in addictive behaviors.
It includes three thematic blocks: a) Conceptual and methodological bases, with an emphasis on the development of human strengths from positive psychology, deepening the concept of well-being as opposed to quality of life, the most relevant health prevention and promotion strategies, and program design and evaluation as a basic methodology for conducting community interventions in health prevention and promotion. b) Life skills that contribute to the development of very useful competencies for maintaining health and well-being and that are usually part of health prevention and promotion programs such as: emotional intelligence, self-esteem, Mindfulness. c) Preventive applications in addictive behaviors and other health problems, with an emphasis on substance and behavioral addictions and innovative social prescription programs for various health problems.
Upon completion of the subject, the student will be able to:

- Understand the relationships between behavior, health, and disease.
- Know the theoretical and methodological foundations in different applied fields.
- Acquire basic skills to develop health programs.
- Acquire basic skills to analyze and modify behaviors.
- Identify the competencies of different health professionals.

Learning outcomes
- Identify the main psychological determinants affecting the development of health problems and ways of tackling them.
- Identify the need for intervention in health problems in different applied contexts.
- Differentiate the psychosocial implications of major health problems, their determinants, epidemiological trends and forecasting.
- Distinguish between the different fields of applied psychological evaluation and intervention in health problems.
- Assess the practical and ethical limitations in the applied field.
- Set therapeutic goals in simulated contexts.
- Identify key intervention techniques in health psychology in different contexts.
- Describe the basic process management techniques and interventions in health psychology.
- Recognise the different applications and indications of techniques and intervention programs in health psychology.
- Differentiate the main evidence on the effectiveness of different programs and interventions in health psychology.
- Critically analyse published programs and interventions.
- Implement programs and / or interventions in health problems or under supervision simulated situations.
- Identify the steps and stages of program evaluation in the field of health.
- Describe the different methods and instruments of evaluation of interventions in health psychology, their qualities and areas of application.

The work methodology will combine traditional teaching techniques with more active methodologies:

- Ev1 (a and b): Multiple-choice partial exams of approximately 40 questions, with four answer alternatives and one correct one. The penalty applied to the test correction is 1/3, meaning that for every 3 incorrect questions, 1 correct question is removed. The exam will include between 5-6 questions from each topic and 2-3 from each seminar taught.
- Ev2: Summarized presentation of an article linked to each theory topic, individual or in groups of 2 people. The public defense (15’), the generation of debate, and the presentation as evidence are evaluated.
- Ev3 (a and b): Group work on the design, planning, and evaluation of a health program. This work includes an oral presentation in poster format (Ev3a) and a written report (Ev3b).
GLOBAL GRADE: he overall grade for the subject will be the weighted average of the scores obtained in each of the learning evidences. To pass the subject, a weighted average of 5 is required, as well as a minimum score of 4.0 (on a 10-point scale) in Ev1a and Ev1b. If these requirements are not met, the maximum grade to be recorded in the academic record will be 4.5 points.
Recovery Test: Students who, throughout the continuous evaluation, have completed evidences with a weight equal to or greater than 2/3 of the total qualification and have achieved a grade lower than 5 points can opt for the final Recovery Test. Ev2, Ev3a, and Ev3b are excluded from this Recovery test. Passing the Recovery Test will result in a grade of Pass (5).
Definition of "Subject passed": The subject will be considered passed if the weighted average of all evidences is equal to or greater than 5 and the grade for Ev1a and Ev1b is greater than or equal to 4, or if the grade for the recovery exam is 5.
Definition of "Non-assessable": Students who: 1) have not appeared for the multiple-choice tests (Ev1a and Ev1b) of the subject; or 2) who, having appeared for several tests, the total weight of these is less than 40%, will be qualified as "Non-assessable." Synthesis tests are not planned for students in their 2nd or later enrollment.

- The single assessment will take place on the same day and in the same place as the test of the second assessment period of the subject. All the contents of the course will be assessed.
- It includes a multiple-choice test (approximately 80 questions), an open question and short answer test (approximately 10 questions) and the defence in 15' and 10' of questions on the prevention or health promotion programme developed. The poster used for the defence will be handed in. The duration can be approximately 3.5/4 hours.
- The final mark for the course will be obtained as described in the continuous assessment.
- The same resit system as the continuous assessment will be applied.
- The recoverable evidences are the Eva and/or the Evb.
