Prerequisites

  • When enrolling in the internship module, students must pay for supplementary insurance at the Faculty’s Academic Administration Office. By regulation, students cannot begin their internships without this insurance. (Cost of the supplementary insurance: approximately €7.55).

  • It is essential that students have a digital signature in order to sign the internship agreements.

Objectives

The aim of the module is to introduce students to the professional world. The module consists of 150 hours of external work placements, which may be distributed throughout the first and/or second semester of the academic year, although they are preferably scheduled during the spring and take place in the mornings. The work placement is carried out at one of the institutions with which the UAB has a collaboration agreement. If a student is interested in undertaking their placement at an organisation that does not appear on our list, the coordination team will consider the case and, if feasible, will arrange a specific agreement with that organisation. Aware of the important contribution that practical experience makes to students' education, one of the priorities of our Master's programme is to tailor the placements, as far as possible, to the profile and interests of our students. The tasks that students carry out throughout the placement period are usually linked to a project developed by their host institution and may be very diverse — including collaboration in the documentation, cataloguing and registration of collections; support tasks in the preparation and installation of an exhibition; collaboration with communication or educational services; participation in an editing project; support for management tasks related to the day-to-day running of a department in a museum, art centre or gallery, etc. As is to be expected, projects vary depending on the institution. Before beginning the placement, the student meets with the professional at the host institution who will supervise them, with the aim of establishing initial contact, agreeing on the tasks to be carried out, and discussing the timetable and working hours. Once the placement period has been completed, the student must submit a report on the activities carried out. In order to formalise the work placement agreement, it is essential that students have a digital signature beforehand.
