Prerequisites
Enrollment in this module is mandatory before starting the procedures to undertake internships in companies and/or public administrations. In order to carry out an internship at a company or institution, an agreement must have been previously signed between the university and the company/administration, along with its corresponding annexes, which must also be signed by the student. The management of this agreement is handled by the Academic Management of the Faculty of Sciences, following the completion of an activity proposal form that must be requested from the module coordinator.
Please take into account the following information and recommendations regarding these agreements:
- Remuneration: The host institution is under no obligation to financially compensate students. Any financial compensation is purely at the company's discretion, in accordance with the regulations in force in each case.
- Location: The Practicum can be carried out either in Spain or abroad. However, the academic tutor will review each case individually before granting authorization.
- Language requirements: If the host institution is a public or private company in Catalonia, students must be fluent in either Spanish or Catalan.
Please note: The number of students who can take this course depends on the number of vacancies offered by companies, which is subject to change. For this reason, the number of student enrollment slots for this module may be restricted before the start of the academic year.
Objectives
The objective of this module is to apply the knowledge gained through the Masters program to the tasks assigned in a company or administration, which will also allow the stuendt to acquire competences and experience.

Contents
This course does not include theoretical content. Undertaking external internships in research laboratories within the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona is not considered appropriate; this option would only be considered under exceptional circumstances.

Undertaking the internship does not imply that either party (university and company/entity) assumes any obligations beyond strictly academic ones. Under no circumstances does it imply a contractual employment relationship between the student and the company or entity.
Internship students, who must be mandatory enrolled in this module, are covered by the student insurance policy under the terms specified by current legislation. Students who do not fall within the scope of the standard student insurance must provide proof of coverage under alternative healthcare and civil liability systems at the time of application.
Students must integrate themselves into the daily workflow of the host company or administration and strictly adhere to their assigned schedule. A specific work plan will be drawn up for each case, detailing, among other things, the tasks and duties to be carried out by the student.
Internship Protocol for students
1.Publication and Internship Search: October - November.
The coordinator will upload a list of internship offers from various companies to the module's Moodle platform. Students may also independently contact other companies to secure alternative offers, provided they receive prior approval from the coordinator. During this period, students must obtain their Social Security number.
2.Submission of Preferences:Deadline to be announced.
The coordinator will specify the deadline for students to submit their placement preferences, along with their field of interest and an updated CV in PDF format.
3.Placement Assignment:Selection process.
The coordinator will distribute the available internships based on student preferences and site requirements (e.g., transport needs, language proficiency, specific corporate profiles, etc.). In the event of a tie between two candidates under equal conditions, selection will be determined by academic performance and courses completed during this master's program, as well as previous studies.
4.Communication with the Institution:Data submission.
The coordinator will contact the tutor at the host institution to provide the names and CVs of the assigned students.
5.Selection Interview:Mandatory requirement.
Using the contact details provided by the coordinator, the host institution will contact the student to schedule an interview. This meeting aims to finalize the placement details (hours, tasks, etc.) and is strictly required before final acceptance.
6.Activity Proposal Submission:Internal paperwork.
If the interview is successful, the student must email the activity proposal form to the Practicum coordinator. The coordinator will then contact the Academic Management of the Faculty of Sciences to prepare the formal agreement between the UAB and the host institution.
7.Agreement Signing:Legal validation.
The Academic Management of the Faculty of Sciences will send the copies of the agreement, duly signed by the university, to the host institution to be signed and returned to Academic Management.
8.Start of the Internship:Operational phase.
Once the agreement is fully signed by all parties, students may officially begin their practicum activities.
9.Final Evaluation:Completion.
Upon completion of the internship placement, the final academic assessment will take place.
Common Variations in the Procedure
If students wish to find their own host institution, they must consult directly with the Practicum coordinator to determine viability, depending heavily on the proposed work plan and legal restrictions. Prior to this consultation, students may use the documentation provided in this text if requested by the host institution.
Students must contact the Practicum coordinator far enough in advance to process the agreement before the internship begins. This contact must be made at least three weeks in advance (the standard turnaround time required to process an agreement). All other registration and assessment requirements for the course remain completely identical to the general procedure.
In certain cases, this module may be combined with the Master's Thesis (TFM) or involve participation in external challenges published by third parties to address specific professional demands.

Assessment will be based on the following weightings:
- 50%: Based on the student's video (detailed below), evaluated by the coordinator on a scale from 1 to 10 according to the criteria stipulated in the "competences" and "learning outcomes" sections.
- 50%: Based on the evaluation report submitted by the host company or institution.
Assessment Procedure
1.Video Submission:Student Requirement.
As soon as the student completes their internship placement, they MUST prepare a short video (maximum 3 minutes) and email it to the coordinator of the module for his/her specialty. The video may include a quick tour of the workplace, followed by a presentation of their responsibilities, achievements, positive and negative aspects, how helpful the placement was in expanding their knowledge in the field, and their main takeaways. The video can be recorded in Catalan, Spanish, or English.
2.Supervisor's Report:By the end of June.
Concurrently, students must ask their company supervisor to complete the evaluation form and email it directly to the internship coordinator. This form will be available on the module's Moodle platform. Both steps 1 and 2 must be completed before the end of June.
3.Consequences of Non-Submission:Penalization Criteria.
Failure to complete either step 1 or step 2 will lead the coordinator to assume that the internship requirements have not been met, resulting in a failing grade.
4.Passing Requirement:Minimum Grade.
Both components are mandatory, and the combined weighted score must be at least 5 out of 10 for the student to pass the course.
Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies is permitted in this course as an integral part of project development, provided that the final outcome reflects a significant and original contribution by the student in terms of analysis and personal reflection. Students must clearly identify which parts have been generated using this technology, specify the tools employed, and include a critical reflection on how they influenced the workflow and the final outcome of the activity.
Note on Academic Integrity: A lack of transparency regarding the use of AI will be treated as academic dishonesty and may lead to a grade penalty for the activity or more severe disciplinary sanctions where appropriate.
