Objectives
The Master's Thesis (MT) consists of the preparation, presentation, and defense, once all the credits of the study programme have been completed, of an original piece of work carried out individually before a university examination board. It consists of a comprehensive Telecommunications Engineering project of a professional nature, in which the skills and competencies acquired throughout the degree programme are integrated and demonstrated.
Learning outcomes
- (CA43) Acquire skills for continuous, self-directed and autonomous learning.
- (CA44) Perform, present and defend, once all the credits of the curriculum have been obtained, an original exercise carried out individually before a university panel, consisting of a comprehensive telecommunications engineering project of a professional nature in which the skills acquired in the teachings are synthesised.
Contents
The Master's Thesis (MT) is an independent academic project comprising three clearly differentiated parts: the development of the project itself, the writing of the technical report, and the public presentation and defense of the project, which takes place at the end of the first semester of the second academic year.
Each student is assigned a supervisor from among the UAB faculty members participating in the Master's programme, who will provide personalized guidance throughout the completion of the Master's Thesis. The supervisor defines and guides the objectives of the thesis, oversees its progress, and resolves any questions that may arise.
A series of activities, including submissions and meetings, will be carried out to monitor the student's progress and work. Students are responsible for contacting their supervisor to arrange the meetings that will take place throughout the academic year.

The supervisor will define and guide the objectives of the thesis, monitor its progress, and resolve any questions that may arise.
A series of activities, including submissions and meetings, will be carried out to monitor the student's progress and work. Students are expected to contact their supervisor in order to arrange the meetings that will take place throughout the academic year.
Note: Fifteen minutes of a class session, within the schedule established by the School or degree programme, will be reserved for students to complete the surveys evaluating both the teaching performance of the academic staff and the course itself.

The quality of the work will be assessed independently by an examination committee of experts, in accordance with the regulations established by the School and the University. The committee will consist of three PhD faculty members from the academic areas involved in teaching the Master's programme.
In all cases, the final grade awarded to the project will be based, at a minimum, on the following criteria:
- Achievement of the objectives defined at the beginning of the project.
- Ability to carry out independent work.
- Ability to apply the knowledge acquired to solve the proposed problem.
- Degree of difficulty of the problem addressed or the work undertaken.
- Technical quality of the work.
- Ability to prepare the final report. The report must include, at a minimum, a two-page summary written in English.
- Ability to present and publicly defend the results achieved in a clear and concise manner. The Master's Thesis defense must include, at a minimum, the introduction and conclusions in English.
The Master's Thesis report shall be submitted through the course intranet and, upon request, a printed copy shall be provided to each member of the examination committee who requires one. Committee members must receive a PDF copy of the report at least one week prior to the thesis defense.
The report should be approximately 60 to 80 pages in length, using Times New Roman 12-point font, Times New Roman 10-point font for footnotes, and 1.5 line spacing.
The report must include the following sections:
- Abstract: a maximum of 200 words written in Spanish, Catalan, and English.
- Table of Contents: including all sections and subsections appearing in the report, with their corresponding page numbers.
- Introduction: explaining the motivation for the project and the methodology followed in its development.
- Conclusions: related to the objectives of the project and highlighting the main findings or contributions.
- References: preferably organized by document type, subject area, or other criteria that facilitate the identification of the sources and materials used.
- Appendices: included at the end of the document whenever deemed appropriate to facilitate understanding of the work.
