Objectives

The module will be devoted to providing a general guidance on the techniques and the fundamental knowledge for editing and correcting Catalan texts from different periods. These contents will be given by Lluís Cifuentes (edition of medieval texts, block 1) and Víctor Martínez-Gil (edition of contemporary texts and correction of texts, block 2).

Block 1. Edition of medieval texts (Lluís Cifuentes)

1. Reading and editing medieval texts: paleography.

2. Understanding the continent: codicology.

3. The utility and understanding of complements.

4. Medieval archives and libraries.There will be visits to the Reserve Library of the UB, the Historical Archive of Protocols of Barcelona and the Archive of the Cathedral of Barcelona.

Block 2. Edition of contemporary texts and correction of texts (Víctor Martínez-Gil)

1. General principles and terminology. What does it mean to edit a text. Original and copies. Variants and philological lessons. The Textual Bibliography. Authors and editors. "Prefabrian" texts and "postfabrian" texts.

2. Editing models.

3. Authorial philology.Critique of variants and editing models. Genetic criticism and editing models.

4. Textual criticism and literary criticism.

5. Criteria for correcting texts.

Annotation: within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Assessment

Writing and submission of assignment block 1: 25% of the final grade

Oral presentation on authorial philology and text correction block 2: 25% of the final grade

An active participation in the module is required. In the event that an evaluation activity does not obtain the minimum grade of 5 out of 10 the student can repeat it in a period of reassessment established by the calendar of the course.
On carrying out each evaluation activity, lecturers will inform students (on Moodle) of the procedures to be followed for reviewing all grades awarded, and the date on which such a review will take place.
In the event of a student committing any irregularity that may lead to a significant variation in the grade awarded to an assessment activity, the student will be given a zero for this activity, regardless of any disciplinary process that may take place. In the event of several irregularities in assessment activities of the same subject, the student will be given a zero as the final grade for this subject.
In the event that tests or exams cannot be taken onsite, they will be adapted to an online format made available through the UAB’s virtual tools (original weighting will be maintained). Homework, activities and class participation will be carried out through forums, wikis and/or discussion on Teams, etc. Lecturers will ensure that students are able to access these virtual tools, or will offer them feasible alternatives.
Students will obtain a \"Not assessed/Not submitted\" course grade unless they have submitted more than 30% of the assessment items.
In this subject, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies is not allowed in any of its phases. Any work that includes fragments generated with AI will be considered a lack of academic honesty and may lead to a partial or total penalty in the grade of the activity, or greater sanctions in serious cases.

This subject does not allow a single assessment.

Students will obtain a \"Not assessed/Not submitted\" course grade unless they have submitted more than 30% of the assessment items.
