Objectives

"Case Studies" is a compulsory subject worth 9 ECTS with a fundamentally practical orientation that develops the contents of the theoretical subjects through specific case studies. Case studies are intended to illustrate the cultural, social, communicational, political, economic, and environmental dynamics, which are developed on a global scale with East Asia as the main actor. The subject consists of the following formative parts: 1) Methodology of case studies; 2) Products, identities, and transnational discourses; 3) Geopolitics, economics, and environment; 4) Politics and society of East Asia.

Continuous assessment

Students must provide evidence of their progress by completing various tasks and tests. These activities are detailed in the table at the end of this section of the Study Guide.

Review and missed/failed assessment activities

When publishing final marks prior to recording them on students' transcripts, the lecturer will outline the procedure to carry out their review and, once this is done, the resit procedure, if applicable.

Misconduct in assessment activities

Any irregularity committed during an assessment (academic fraud, plagiarism, or misuse of AI, unless expressly authorized in the course syllabus) that could lead to a significant change in the grade will result in a grade of 0 for that assessment. If multiple irregularities occur during assessments for the same course, the final grade for that course will be 0. Furthermore, disciplinary proceedings may be initiated against any individual who commits any of these irregularities.

In this course, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies may or may not be permitted depending on the activity. The permitted and prohibited uses in each case will be detailed in the course introduction. Students must clearly identify which parts were generated using AI technologies, specify the tools used, verify and validate the information obtained and include a critical reflection on how these tools influenced the process and the final result of the activity. A lack of transparency regarding the use of AI in graded assignments will be considered a breach of academic integrity and may result in a partial or total penalty on the assignment grade, or more severe sanctions in serious cases. The teaching staff, in case of doubts, may require a face-to-face meeting to validate the authorship.

Single assessment

This subject may be assessed under the single assessment system in accordance with the terms established in the academic regulations of the UAB and the assessment criteria of the FTI.

Students must make an online request within the period established by the Faculty and send a copy to the teacher in charge of the subject, for their records.

The single assessment will take place in a single day, once the subject is finished. The date, time and place will be posted on the virtual campus. On the day of the singleassessment, teaching staff will ask the student for identification, which should be presented as a valid identification document with a recent photograph (student card, DNI/NIE or passport).

Single assessment activities

The final grade for the subject will be calculated according to the following percentages:

- Submission of essays, reports and commentaries (40%)

- Oral defence of a written essay (20%)

- Theoretical - practical written assessment (40%)

Grade review and resit procedures, and the procedure in case of misconduct in assessment activities, are the same as those for continuous assessment.

At the beginning of the classes the instructors of the different sections of the subject will provide specific bibliography for each topic.
