Prerequisites

No special pre-requisites are needed

Objectives

To be able to present clearly the research activity carried out.

Aspects such as to contextualize the research topic according the actual state of the art of the topic, the ability to search for adequate bibliography, to discuss the obtained results according to the genetic point of view, to present in an open session the realized activity, and to show sufficient knowledge of the research topic, are the objectives of this module.

Learning outcomes

  1. Presentation of a written report on an innovative subject area.
  2. Students should be capable of integrating knowledge and facing the complexity of making judgements using information that may be incomplete or limited, including reflections on the social and ethical responsibilities linked to that knowledge and those judgements.
  3. Present results in public.
  4. Active participation in group meetings.
  5. Student should possess an ability to learn that enables them to continue studying in a manner which is largely self-supervised or independent.
  6. Propose entrepreneurial projects in the area of genetics from an integrated view of the knowledge acquired.
  7. Take part in a research project or product development.
  8. Design and carry out a research project in the area of genetics.
  9. Apply the bibliographical information collected in data bases to the experimental problem posed within the work.
  10. Demonstrate responsibility in management of information and knowledge.
  11. Write a report that considers the use of the methodology used in the module to resolve a specific problem.
  12. Use scientific terminology to argue the results of the research and show how to communicate in spoken and written English in an international setting.

Contents

To understand the usage of the different methodologies implemented in the experimental work, together with the comprehension of the references fonts and to apply the concepts acquired in the theoretic modules will constitute the content of the module.

Learning activities and methodology

Title Hours ECTS Learning outcomes
Supervision of the task 75 3
Writing, presentation and defence of the Master Thesis 280 11.2

The methodology used consists of drafting the work, searching for literature, and the ability to generate a logical description of the research activity carried out.

For this subject, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies is permitted exclusively for support tasks, such as literature or information searches, text correction, translations or image creation. Students must clearly identify which parts have been generated using this technology, specify the tools used, and include a critical reflection on how these have influenced the process and the final outcome of the activity. Non-transparency regarding the use of AI in this assessable activity or the inclusion of AI-generated fragments will be considered a breach of academic honesty and may lead to a partial or total penalty in the grade of the activity, or major sanctions in serious cases.

Annotation: within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.
