The subject of Fundamentals of Marketing will use a combination of teaching methods to promote student learning.

1) Lectures: in these sessions the lecturers cover the basic concepts and notions of the subject.

2) Work sessions centred on case studies: the methodology of the case in question will be used to gain a better understanding of the concepts and models covered in the lectures. Student will receive a case on which they must compile a report to be discussed in class.

3) Practical activities and exercises: student must work individually or in small groups to solve practical questions and exercises. Some of these activities will take place in the classroom and others will not.

4) Complementary activities: reading press articles, reviewing books that contribute to illustrating and clarifying relevant aspects of the subject content.

5) Tutorials: students have access to lecturers in the subject at certain times which may help to clear up any doubts that they may have about the subject or the specific questions they are dealing with.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI):

In this subject, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies is permitted as an integral part of the development of the work, provided that the final result reflects a significant contribution by the student in terms of analysis and personal reflection. The student must clearly identify which parts have been generated using this technology, specify the tools used, and include a critical reflection on how these tools have influenced the process and the final outcome of the activity. Lack of transparency in the use of AI will be considered a breach of academic honesty and may result in a penalty in the mark for the activity, or more serious sanctions in severe cases.

Annotation: within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Assessment

Continuous assessment activities

Title Weight Hours ECTS Learning outcomes
Business cases and classes assessment 20% 0.8 0.032 CM60, KM59, SM62, SM63, SM65
Exam 50% 2 0.08 CM61, KM57, KM58, KM59, SM64, SM65
Assignments and oral presentations 30% 1.2 0.048 CM60, CM61, CM62, KM57, SM62, SM64, SM65

This subject does not offer the option for comprehensive evaluation.

The Fundamentals of Marketing subject will be assessed according to the following criteria:

  1. Development of tasks (30%): This consists of carrying out 2 to 3 short marketing-related tasks in groups of 3–4 students, which are presented in class.
  2. In-class activities (10%): This consists of solving practical cases in class.
  3. Class participation (10%): Class participation includes attendance and active participation in class through answering questions and contributing up-to-date information on business-related issues.
  4. Written test (50%): Exam.

The grade for the continued evaluation is formed by the average of the qualifications obtained in the development of the assignments, cases and participation in class. The written exam will consist of a single exam divided into two parts: Multiple choice test and Opened questions. In order for the exam to be considered passed, the student must obtain a minimum score of 4 out of 10 in each of the two parts, independently.

The completion of assessment activities is subject to the provisions set out in this course guide and in the "Policy of the School of Economics and Business on the Detection of Irregularities during Assessment Activities", which regulates the conditions under which assessment tasks are conducted and the procedures applicable in cases where indications of irregularities are detected. Students are encouraged to consult the policy.

Condition for calculating the average under continuous assessment:

All students are required to complete the assessable activities. If a student does not obtain the minimum mark of 4/10 in any of the assessment components, the final exam mark will not be combined with the continuous assessment mark, and the subject will be considered failed. If the final average mark for the course is 5 or above, the subject will be considered passed. If the average mark is below 5, the student may sit the reassessment test.A student may only obtain a “Not assessable” mark in the subject if they have not participated in any of the assessment activities. Therefore, a student who completes any continuous assessment component may no longer be awarded a “Not assessable” mark.

Schedule of assessment activities:

The dates of the different assessment activities, such as mid-term exams, classroom exercises and assignment submissions, will be announced sufficiently in advance during the semester. The date of the final exam for the subject is scheduled in the Faculty’s exam calendar. The scheduling of assessment activities may not be modified unless there is an exceptional and duly justified reason why an assessment activity cannot take place. In such cases, the persons responsible for the degree programmes, after consulting the teaching staff and the students affected, will propose a new schedule within the corresponding teaching period (Section 1 of Article 115. Calendar of assessment activities – UAB Academic Regulations).

Students of the Faculty of Economics and Business who, in accordance with the previous paragraph, need to change the date of an assessment activity must submit a request by completing the following form: https://eformularis.uab.cat/group/deganat_feie/nou-reprogramacio-de-proves

Procedure for reviewing grades:

At the time of the final exam, the date and means by which the final grades will be published will be announced. Likewise, students will be informed of the procedure, place, date and time for the review of exams, in accordance with University regulations.

Reassessment process:

In order to participate in the reassessment process, students must have previously been assessed in a set of activities representing at least two thirds of the total mark for the subject or module (Section 3 of Article 112 ter. Reassessment – UAB Academic Regulations). Students must have obtained an average mark for the subject between 3.5 and 4.8, provided that the final exam mark is at least 4/10.

The date of this test will be scheduled in the Faculty’s exam calendar. A student who takes and passes the reassessment test will pass the subject with a mark of 5. Otherwise, the original mark will be maintained.

Irregularities in assessment activities:

Without prejudice to any other disciplinary measures deemed appropriate, and in accordance with current academic regulations, if a student commits any irregularity that may lead to a significant variation in the mark awarded for an assessment activity, that assessment activity will be graded with a 0, regardless of any disciplinary proceedings that may be initiated. If several irregularities occur in the assessment activities of the same subject, the final mark for that subject will be 0 (Section 10 of Article 116. Assessment results – UAB Academic Regulations).
