The methodology followed in the course is that of the textbook. (see Bibliography) Units 6,7,8 and 10 will be covered. The class will basically have oral comprehension and speaking activities. There will be mini presentations on current events as well as a presentation. Individual work in grammar is expected. Listening comprehension of Ted Talks and writing organization will also be worked on.

Note: 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to complete the surveys evaluating the professor and course.

Annotation: within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

The subject will be evaluated in the following way:

Continuous Assessment 35%

- 4 tests

There will be a test over each book unit once it is finished and tests will be announced one week in advance. These tests can only be can be recuperated if there is a medical reason or coordination approves it. They will be recuperated during recuperation week

- 2 writing assignments done in class

- 1 writing assignments done in class

The class written activity can be recuperated if there is a medical reason or coordination approves it. This activity can be reassessed. It will be recuperated or reassessed during recuperation week.

Presentation 10%

Can be recuperated with an agreed upon date (which will be as close as possible to the original date) with the professor if there is a medical reason or coordination approves it.

Final Exam 45%

It can be recuperated and reassessed following the UAB statutes

Class Participation 10%

- Express oneself in English using correct vocabulary and grammar.

- Complete the assigned spoken activities. Can be recuperated with an agreed upon date (which will be as close as possible to the original date) with the professor if there is a medical reason or coordination approves it.

On carrying out each assessment activity, lecturers will inform students (on Moodle) of the procedures to be followed for reviewing all grades awarded, and the date on which such a review will take place which will be at maximum three weeks after the task.

This subject does not incorporate the single-assessment option.

In accordance with the UAB Academic Regulations (article 266.4), a final continuous-assessment grade of 4.9 rounds up to 5. (a 5.9 to a 6, a 6,9 a 7, a 7,9 to a 8, an 8,9 a 9)

The final average grade will be communicated to students at least 72 hours before the re-assessment exam.

Re-assessment:

Re-assessment for this subject requires a content-synthesis test, for which the following conditions are applicable:

- The student must previously have submitted a minimum of two-thirds of the course-assessment items.

- The student must previously have obtained an average overall grade equal to or higher than 3.5.

Students will obtain a Not assessed/Not submitted course grade unless they have submitted more than 30% of the assessment items.

In the event of a student committing any irregularity that may lead to a significant variation in the grade awarded to an assessment activity, the student will be given a zero for this activity, regardless of any disciplinary process that may take place. In the event of several irregularities in assessment activities of the same subject, the student will be given a zero as the final grade for this subject.

Irregularities refer, for instance, to copying in an exam, copying from sources without indicating authorship, or a misuse of AI such as presenting work as original that has been generated by an AI tool or programme. These evaluation activities will not be re-assessed.

This subject entirely prohibits the use of AI technologies in all of its activities. Any submitted work that contains content generated using AI will be considered academic dishonesty; the corresponding grade will be awarded a zero, without the possibility of reassessment. In cases of greater infringement, more serious action may be taken.

Erasmus students who ask to advance test or exam dates need to present a document emitted from their university of origin justifying their request. Otherwise they need to do tests and the exam on the established dates.
