Prerequisites

It is recommended that the student has taken the subject BUSINESS ECONOMICS of the first course.

 

Objectives

Marketing, and by extension digital marketing, is a core subject within the Business and Technology degree, as it trains students in central aspects of business management and, specifically, in the management of the marketing department, which is a fundamental part of the company's commercial area.

Training in commercial management and digital marketing is necessary for the successful professional integration of a Business and Technology graduate into companies across different productive and service sectors. Given the process of digitalization that our society has undergone, and will continue to undergo, it is essential to master the tools and tasks involved in the field of digital marketing. In this context, the emergence of artificial intelligence and the automation of tasks is transforming the way marketing work is carried out, and for this reason the course incorporates these elements transversally throughout its contents.

In all these situations, students must develop a broad view of business management in order to carry out their work efficiently and grow within the organization's structure. Within the Business and Technology degree, this Digital Marketing course combines the main elements of both online and offline marketing, in order to give students a 360ยบ view of the subject.

Upon completing the Digital Marketing course, students will be able to:

  • Understand and evaluate the main concepts and tools of marketing and digital marketing.
  • Understand the importance of marketing within the company and in society.
  • Carry out an internal and external analysis of the company and determine a diagnosis of its commercial situation, both online and offline.
  • Understand the different competitive marketing strategies, both operational and digital.
  • Understand the role of artificial intelligence and agentification in current digital marketing processes.
  • Interrelate marketing/commercial decisions with the rest of the decisions of the company's other functional areas.

Contents

  1. Introduction to Marketing and Commercial Planning: macro and micro-environment, commercial planning, market research in the data era.
  2. Market analysis, demand and consumer behaviour: segmentation, positioning and data- and AI-driven personalization.
  3. Design of strategies: competitive, growth and growth marketing.
  4. Customer management with CRM (Dynamics Customer Insights), user experience, web analytics and data visualization (Looker Studio or Power BI); AI-augmented analytics.
  5. Marketing-Mix: product and brand, price, distribution and communication; generative AI applied to content creation.
  6. Marketing in digital media: SEO/SEM positioning, inbound marketing, web, email and mobile marketing; generative search (GEO).
  7. E-commerce and marketplaces: e-commerce, AI-based recommendation and automation.
  8. New functions and marketing agentification: community manager, social media marketing and AI agents applied to marketing tasks.
  9. New trends, players and ethics of AI-driven marketing: metaverse, omnichannel tracking, privacy and the limits of automation.

The subject of Digital Marqueting will use a combination of teaching methodologies in order to promote learning by the student:

1) Master classes: In these sessions the teachers will develop the main concepts and notions of the subject.

2) Work sessions focused on a practical case: The case methodology will be used to better understand the different concepts and models worked on in the master sessions. Students will receive a case on which they will have to make a report that will be subject to discussion in class.

3) Realisation of practical activities and exercises: The students will have to resolve autonomously or with small groups of work the practices and exercises proposed. Some of these activities will be carried out in the classroom and others will not.

4) Complementary activities: Reading of press articles or recensions of books that contribute to illustrate and clarify relevant aspects of the content of the subject.

5) Personal tutorials: The student will have a few hours where the teachers of the subject will be able to help him/her to solve the doubts that arise in the study of the subject and/or in the resolution of the problems.

Annotation: within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

This course does not offer the single-assessment option.

  1. Final exam: 40% of the grade
  2. Practical activities and assessed participation: 25% of the grade
  3. Group work (written report): 35% of the grade

The group work incorporates the documented and justified use of artificial intelligence tools, assessed on the basis of the criteria applied.

Students must obtain a minimum grade of 4 in the exam (written test) in order to calculate the course average. In this case, they will pass the course if their grade across the set of assessment components is 5 or higher; otherwise, they will be entitled to sit the resit assessment under the terms set out below.

If the exam grade is below 4, but the calculated average is above 5, the student may also take the resit assessment, on the understanding that if they do not pass it, the final grade for the course will be that of the final test.

A student will be considered "not assessable" only if they have not taken part in any of the assessment activities. Therefore, if a student completes ANY of the assessment activities, they can no longer be considered "not assessable".

Assessment activities calendar:

The dates of the different assessment tests (partial exams, in-class exercises, submission of assignments, etc.) will be announced with sufficient notice during the semester.

The date of the course's final exam is scheduled in the Faculty's exam calendar.

"The scheduling of assessment tests cannot be modified unless there is an exceptional and duly justified reason why an assessment activity cannot be carried out. In such a case, those responsible for the degree programmes, after consulting the teaching staff and the students affected, will propose a new schedule within the corresponding teaching period." Students of the Faculty of Economics and Business who, in accordance with the previous paragraph, need to change an assessment date must submit their request by completing the Test Rescheduling Request form https://eformularis.uab.cat/group/deganat_feie/reprogramacio-proves

Procedure for reviewing grades:

Together with the final exam, the day and means by which the final grades will be published will be announced. Likewise, information will be provided on the procedure, place, date and time for the review of exams in accordance with University regulations.

Resit process:

"In order to take part in the resit process, students must have previously been assessed on a set of activities representing at least two thirds of the total grade for the course or module." Section 3 of Article 112 ter. Resit (UAB Academic Regulations). Students must have obtained an average course grade between 3.5 and 4.9.

The date of this test will be scheduled in the Faculty's exam calendar. Students who sit it and pass will pass the course with a grade of 5. Otherwise, they will keep the same grade.

Irregularities in assessment activities

Without prejudice to other disciplinary measures deemed appropriate, and in accordance with current academic regulations, "in the event that a student commits any irregularity that may lead to a significant variation in the grade of an assessment activity, this assessment activity will be graded with 0, regardless of any disciplinary process that may be initiated. In the event that several irregularities occur in the assessment activities of the same course, the final grade for this course will be 0". Section 10 of Article 116. Assessment results.
