Objectives
Learning outcomes
- Describe, identify and contrast the basic structures of a language.
- Distinguish the distinct levels of linguistic analysis and establish relationships between them.
- Maintain an attitude of respect for the opinions, values, behaviors and practices of others.
- Effectively communicating and applying the argumentative and textual processes to formal and scientific texts.
- Synthesise information obtained from distinct sources, problematise a topic, and structure the information in a relevant way in oral and written presentations adapted to the audience.
- Identify the impact of social and economic organisation on linguistic practices in French.
- Produce an essay (or similar) respecting the ethical aspects related to the authorship of ideas and the diversity of opinions.
- Use written and spoken French language for academic and professional purposes, related to the study of French linguistics, history, culture and literature.

This course is essentially practical in nature and requires the active participation of each student.
NB: 15 minutes of a class will be reserved, within the timetable established by the centre/title, for the complementation by the students of the assessment surveys of the teaching staff's performance and the assessment of the subject.

FINAL MARK:
50% of the final mark consists of several assignments throughout the course.
50% of the final course grade is based on a final written exam (20%), a final oral presentation (20%) and a final grammar and vocabulary test (10%).
PROCEDURE FOR REVIEWING GRADES AWARDED: Unless otherwise specified, for each evaluation activity, students have can ask for reviewing the grades awarded within a week after the results are notified.
PARTICULAR CASES:
- Francophone students must meet the same evaluation requirements as all other students. The responsibility for keeping up with the learning and assessment activities lies solely with the student.
- EXCHANGE STUDENTS: Exchange students requesting to take an exam ahead of schedule must present a written document from their home university to the professor justifying their request.
PLAGIARISM: In the event of a student committing any irregularity that may lead to a significant variation in the grade awarded to an assessment activity, the student will be given a zero for this activity, regardless of any disciplinary process that may take place. In the event of several irregularities in assessment activities of the same subject, the student will be given a zero as the final grade for this subject.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI): This subject allosw the use of AI technologies exclusively for support tasks such as content-based searches. In case AI technologies are used, the student must clearly 1) identify which parts have been generated using AI technology, 2) specify the tools used, and 3) include a critical reflection on how these have influenced the process and final outcome of the activity. Lack of transparency regarding the use of AI in the assessed activity will be considered academic dishonesty; the work will be awarded a zero. In cases of greater infringement, more serious action may be taken.In the event of several irregularities in assessment activities of the same subject, the student will be given a zero as the final grade for this subject.
\"NO AVALUABLE\": Students will obtain a \"No avaluable\" course grade unless they have submitted more than 30% of the assessment items.
REASSESSMENT: Only students who, having failed have given at least 66% of the course evaluation items are eligible for reassessment. Reassessment consists of a final oral and/or written exam. The assignments and homework exercises are excluded from reassessment. Evaluation activities in which there have been irregularities (cheating, misuse of AI, etc.) cannot be retaken.
SINGLE ASSESSMENT: Students must take a grammar and vocabulary test (20%), a written test (40%), and an oral production task (40%). Students who choose the single assessment option must have completed all scheduled activities to be eligible for the retake. The same retake system as for continuous assessment will apply.
