Prerequisites

Students wishing to enroll in Work Placement I must complete a pre-registration process with the Facultat de Filosofia i Lletres conducted according to a calendar that is published annually. Details concerning the pre-registration process and dates are available on the following website.

Failure to complete the pre-registration process results in the impossibility to take Work Placement I. Students will only be assigned an internship position if they have successfully completed their pre-registration by the established deadline. During pre-registration, students are required to rank five placement options in order of preference. Placements will be allocated on the basis of students’ cumulative grade point average.

The student must have passed all first year subjects and accumulated a minimum number of 120 ECTS credits.

Students must be formally enrolled in the course and must have signed the relevant placement agreement before commencing work with the host organisation.

Internship schedules must be compatible with the student’s academic, training, representative, and participatory responsibilities within the University. Working hours will be determined according to the specific characteristics of the placement and the availability of the host organisation.

Since students enrolled in the internship will have successfully completed basic training and compulsory second- and third- year subjects, it is expected that they will be able to communicate effectively and accurately both orally and in writing.

The course requires a C2 (Proficiency) level of English as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment.

Objectives

Completion of the internship guarantees that the student will:

  • Make contact with an interesting professional area during his/her/their training period
  • Acquire a knowledge of tasks related to this field
  • Develop professional competence in a field related to studies undertaken during the degree.

Learning outcomes

  1. Plan work effectively, individually or in groups, in order to fulfil the planned objectives.
  2. Critically analyse the principles, values and procedures that govern the exercise of the profession.
  3. Express oneself effectively orally and in writing using expository and argumentative techniques.
  4. Apply the knowledge and skills acquired to the analysis of professional problems and their resolution.
  5. Apply the knowledge and skills acquired to professional and academic activities related to Linguistics, English teaching, English literature and culture.
  6. Express oneself orally and in writing in English in an academic register and using the appropriate terminology in relation to the different professional fields that the students can access.
  7. Understand specialised academic texts relevant to different professional fields.
  8. Produce written and oral academic texts at higher-proficient-user level (C2) on the concepts and skills acquired during the internship.
  9. Apply the concepts and skills acquired to the professional environments to which students can gain access.
  10. Interact ethically, professionally and efficiently in the professional fields related to linguistics, teaching and literary and cultural management in English.
  11. Analyse situations in different professional fields and identify areas for improvement.
  12. Propose new methods or well-founded alternative solutions to the professional situations analysed.
  13. Identify the social, economic and environmental implications of academic and professional activities in the area of your knowledge.
  14. Propose viable projects and actions to boost social, economic and environmental benefits.
  15. Identify types of oscillators: simple harmonic, buffed and forced.

Contents

The framework for curricular internships comprises two modalities:

  1. Professional internships established through an agreement between an external host institution and the UAB. The UAB signs a specific educational cooperation agreement for each student enrolled in this modality.
  2. Professional internships within the UAB carried out in the context of research projects affiliated with the Department of English and German Studies. In this case, the internship is formalised through the signing of a Resolution for the undertaking of internships within the UAB and a document outlining the specific terms and conditions, in accordance with the official model.

In both cases it is an essential requirement that the student take out an accident and civil liability insurance policy, since the standard student insurance is not sufficient. The supplementary insurance policy offered by the UAB is accepted for this purpose and must be paid for at the time of enrollment (approximate cost: €6).

Internship placements are allocated on the basis of students’ academic records and the needs of the host institutions or research projects.

The specific training provided will depend on the professional activities carried out by the host institution. In the same way, the learning outcomes will vary according to the specific skills acquired during the internship.

The tutor at the collaborating organisation or research project will be responsible for assigning and overseeing the activities undertaken by the student within the framework of the professional internship, in accordance with the corresponding training plan.

The student must attend at least two tutoring sessions (either in person or online) during the internship period. During the second tutorial the student has to submit a brief report about the activities that they have carried out until that moment.

The UAB coordinator will keep a record of these tutorials by means of formal minutes (following the template provided by the Dean’s Office).

Annotation: within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Learning outcomes assessed in the final report may vary depending on the professional skills required by the company / institution / centre that offers the internship.

Upon completion of the internship, the following reports must be submitted to the lecturer responsible for the course at the UAB (Dr Maria Rosa Garrido Sardà):

  • The tutor in the host institution will issue a final report, indicating the number of hours completed and assessing the generic and specific competences which appear in the training project (within a maximum period of 15 days and in accordance with the prescribed format).
  • The student will prepare a final report (self-assessment report) evaluating the activities undertaken at the host institution and their relationship to the knowledge and skills acquired in their university studies. Submission of this report is a mandatory requirement for final assessment.

As part of the training activities (Training for workplace insertion) in the assessment for Professional Placement I, students must have attended at least two of the group professional orientation courses organised by the UAB Employability Service and provide proof of attendance by attaching the corresponding certificates to their final report.


The deadline for submission of the student report is 5 February 2027 for first-semester internships and 28 June 2027 for second-semester internships.

The Academic Internship Coordinator will assess each student’s internship performance and assign the final course grade.


IMPORTANT

  • Students who complete less than 10% of the on-site hours stipulated in the internship agreement will receive a grade of “Not Assessed” (No evaluable).
  • Students who complete more than 10% of the required on-site hours but fail to complete the total number of hours established in the agreement, or who receive an unsatisfactory evaluation, will receive a Fail (Suspens) grade.
  • Given the heterogeneous nature of external internship assessment and the discretionary character of this distinction, no Honours Distinction (Matrícula d’Honor) will be awarded.
  • This course does not offer a resit examination or a single-assessment option.


In the event of a student committing any irregularity that may lead to a significant variation in the grade awarded to an assessment activity, the student will be given a zero for this activity, regardless of any disciplinary process that may take place. In the event of several irregularities in assessment activities of the same subject, the student will be given a zero as the final grade for this subject.

Irregularities refer, for instance, to copying from sources without indicating authorship or a misuse of AI such as presenting work as original that has been generated by an AI tool or programme. These evaluation activities will not be re-assessed

Any relevant bibliography will be provided by the internship tutor according to the tasks the student is expected to perform.
