Prerequisites
The rules of permanence establish a minimum of 160 ECTS of the degree passed to be able to enroll in the Final Project.
Objectives
The Bachelor's Thesis (TFG) is a 12-credit (300-hour) course taken in the fourth year. It is the only mandatory course of the year, and all students are required to complete an academically oriented project. The learning activities of the TFG include the development of a written report and the preparation of its public defense. It is not required for the TFG to contain original results. The work will include a literature review and an experimental component in the broadest sense (calculations, fieldwork, data collection, market research, or other activities). The main objective of the Bachelor's Thesis is for students to demonstrate that they have achieved sufficient maturity in all the competencies of the degree program.

Contents
Bachelor’s Theses (TFGs) may have a more theoretical focus (on a topic related to statistics that is not covered in any of the degree courses) or a more practical focus (an in-depth study of a specific problem and/or dataset). In the first case, the work must include examples of practical application of the results studied. In the second case, it must include an adequate theoretical foundation for the results used.
The student and the supervisor will define the content of the TFG at the beginning of the course. The project can be chosen from those proposed by the degree teaching staff or can be proposed by the student, as long as it aligns with a line of interest offered by faculty members from the Departments of Mathematics or Sociology. In both cases, the project must be approved by the degree coordinator.
The length of the TFG may vary, but it is recommended to be between fifteen and thirty pages. The thesis may be written in Catalan, Spanish, or English. The first page must include the title, the author and the supervisor, and the place and dates in which the project was carried out. This should be followed by an abstract written in the same language as the main text, along with its English version. Non-original content must be clearly referenced in the bibliography, which should appear at the end of the document.

Each student produces three materials, which we refer to as: Project, Dissertation and Presentation. All these materials must be submitted via the Virtual Campus with the approval of the supervisor within the established deadlines, which will be announced in due course.
Project
When the student reaches an agreement with a supervisor —regardless of how the agreement was initiated—, they must prepare an agreed Project proposal, with the supervisor’s approval, including the following, in a total length of one or two pages:
Title of the Dissertation, written in lowercase letters, not in capital letters, with a maximum of 80 characters.
Names of the student and the supervisor.
Objectives and approach of the Dissertation, including bibliography.
This document, in PDF format, must be submitted via the Virtual Campus within the scheduled deadline. Failure to submit the Project on time will result in an automatic change of examination period; if the student is enrolled in the February examination period, they will automatically be moved to the September examination period.
Furthermore, students may request a change to a later examination period by giving prior notice, and only once. If the students concerned are enrolled in the February examination period, the change must be communicated no later than 18 December 2026. If they wish to move from the June to the September examination period, this must be communicated no later than 21 May 2027.
Finally, students enrolled in the September examination period who do not submit the Project within the established deadline will receive a grade of “not submitted”.
Dissertation
The Dissertation is the final document, also referred to as the report, which the student submits at the end of the whole process. The first page must include: the Title, the Author, the Supervisor, the Date and the Place where the work was carried out. This must be followed by an Abstract in the same language as the text and its English version.
The Introduction/Presentation must explain the objectives and approach of the work, the methodology and the sources or materials used, the prior state of the issue, the results obtained and the conclusions reached.
Non-original content must be clearly cited, and the corresponding references must be included in the bibliography at the end of the text.
Presentation
The Presentation is the material that the student will prepare in order to give a 15-minute oral presentation on the Dissertation. It must be submitted via the Virtual Campus a few days after the Dissertation has been submitted.
For this course, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies is permitted exclusively for support tasks, such as bibliographic or information searches, text correction or translations. The student must clearly identify which parts have been generated using this technology, specify the tools used and include a critical reflection on how these tools have influenced the process and the final outcome of the activity. Lack of transparency regarding the use of AI in this assessed activity will be considered a breach of academic honesty and may result in a partial or total penalty in the grade for the activity, or more severe sanctions in serious cases.
Any irregularity in an assessment activity —academic fraud, plagiarism or improper use of AI, unless such use is expressly authorised in the course guide— that may lead to a significant variation in the grade will result in that assessment activity being graded as 0. If the course guide states that obtaining a minimum grade in this assessment activity is an essential requirement for passing the course, or if several irregularities occur in the assessment activities of the same course, the final grade for the course will be 0. In addition, disciplinary proceedings may be initiated against any student who commits any of these irregularities.
