Prerequisites
Students must have successfully completed at least two-thirds of the total ECTS credits of their degree program in order to enroll in this course (160 ECTS for students in the Bachelor's Degree in Physics, 220 ECTS for students in the Double Degree in Physics and Mathematics, and 230 ECTS for students in the Double Degree in Physics and Chemistry).
To complete the enrollment process, in addition to the procedure established by Academic Administration, students must provide the course coordinator (through the web form that will be announced on the Virtual Campus) with the following information: the title of the project, the supervisor (and academic tutor, if applicable), the expected submission date, and a brief description of the objectives and methodology.
Objectives
The aim of the Bachelor's Thesis is to deepen, apply, and effectively communicate the knowledge acquired throughout the Physics Degree. In general, the Thesis may include both theoretical and practical aspects. It is desirable, although not mandatory, that the Thesis demonstrates a certain degree of originality, either through the discussion of known results or through the achievement of a new result.
The Thesis will be presented before an evaluation committee whose members are not necessarily specialists in the specific topic, as one of the main objectives is the development of transferable skills. These include written communication skills, reflected in the thesis report, and oral communication skills, demonstrated during the presentation. In particular, special emphasis is placed on the ability to adapt both the written document and the oral presentation to a broad audience within the physical sciences community.
Learning outcomes

Contents
The work of degree must correspond to the level of knowledge and skills of a graduate in Physics. There are 2 options to choose the subject of the Degree work:
1. The student can choose from a list of topics proposed by the professors of the Department of Physics of the UAB or prestigious researchers from collaborating research institutions. The offer will include, at least, the provisional title, objectives, brief description of the work to be carried out and the contact information of the professor who will direct the Work.
2. From the student's own initiative, on condition that it is agreed with a UAB professor (or external) who will direct the Work.
In both cases, the student and the director will agree, once the theme of the work is defined, the lines of development. The director will facilitate access to basic documentation for its realization. The approximate duration will be one semester. In the case of works directed by researchers external to the Department of Physics, the participation of a professor from the Department of Physics will be required, who acting as the administrative tutor will validate the thematics, objectives and work plans.

The course will be coordinated by a faculty member from the Department of Physics during the academic year [1]. A dedicated space will also be available on the Virtual Campus, through which all relevant information will be communicated to students.
Enrollment and Thesis Registration.
To complete enrollment, in addition to the procedure established by Academic Administration, students must, once the Bachelor's Thesis (TFG) has been agreed upon (see the “TFG List” or “Other Options” sections under Contents), provide the course coordinator—via the web form whose link will be announced on the Virtual Campus—with the following information at least two months before the defense date: Title of the Thesis, Name of the supervisor (and academic tutor, if applicable), Expected defense date, Brief description of the objectives and methodology. This information must be agreed upon in advance with the thesis supervisor.
Direction of the TFGs.
The supervisor(s) and the student will jointly define the topic and development plan of the Thesis. Theses may be co-supervised by a maximum of two people.
When the Thesis supervisor does not belong to the UAB Department of Physics, a member of the Department of Physics will be appointed as academic tutor. The tutor will validate the content of the Thesis (objectives and methodology) within the framework of the Bachelor's Thesis course.
Internship Agreement.
Projects may also be carried out in external institutions or companies, as well as within the framework of mobility programs. In such cases, the collaboration conditions and the commitment to supervise the work by the external institution must be specified through a formal agreement.
The student must submit the internship/agreement form, duly completed and signed by both the external institution or company and the course coordinator, to Academic Administration at the time of enrollment (or later, but always before beginning the work effectively).
Work development.
The Thesis must be carried out individually by the student under the guidance of the supervisor.
Written Report and Oral Presentation
A template document for the written report will be made available on the Virtual Campus as a guideline.
The report must contain, at a minimum, the following sections: Summary abstract, Introduction, Main body of the thesis (with the structure deemed most appropriate), Conclusions and References.
The cover page of the report must include: the title, the indication that it is a TFG of the Degree in Physics, the name of the supervisor (and tutor, if applicable), the examination period (call/session).
The written report must not exceed 10,000 words. The word count includes the sections from the Introduction through the Conclusions and excludes the table of contents, abstract, bibliography, and appendices. Appendices could be included to provide supplementary information (e.g., datasets or material of limited relevance to the main text). However, appendices will not be considered for assessment (examples: safety data sheets, computer code, etc.). The word count must be calculated by the student using the word-counting tool of their word processor (including figure captions and formulas). To this count, students must add: 200 words per figure, 20 words per formula or line of mathematical development (or an equivalent criterion to be specified on the Virtual Campus). A declaration form stating the final calculated length of the document must be included as an appendix.
Failure to comply with the maximum length requirements will result in a penalty, since the report is assessed not only on scientific content but also on the ability to synthesize information and write clearly and concisely. If a student exceeds the maximum length by X%, they automatically forfeit the same X% of the maximum achievable final mark. For example, a student who counts 8500 words inthe Word tool (from introduction toconclusions) and has 15 figures (equivalent to 3000 words), will have atotal of 11500 words, going on by 15% the maximum extension, and therefore, opting for only a maximum score of 8.5 (10-1.5).
Submission and Defense
As a guideline, oral defenses will be scheduled approximately one week before the deadline for submitting grades for the corresponding examination session. Two weeks before the defense, students must upload a digital PDF copy of their report to the submission area enabled on the Virtual Campus by the course coordination team. No printed copy is required.
The submission deadlines will be announced at the beginning of the academic year on the Virtual Campus.
The oral presentation, normally held approximately two weeks after the report submission, will consist of: A presentation of up to 15 minutes and A question-and-answer session with the assessment committee.
Students must prepare their presentation using a format compatible with the official software available at UAB, and only the computers installed in the teaching rooms may be used during the defense. The presentation file must also be submitted electronically through the Virtual Campus.
Additionally, students are required to upload, through the Virtual Campus, a video recording of a rehearsal of their presentation before the defense. The purpose of this video is to help students prepare their oral presentation and assist the evaluation committee in preparing for the public defense. Submission of the video is mandatory, although the presentation grade is based solely on the in-person defense.
If the sanitary situation makes it necessary, the defences will be reprogrammed in non-onsite formats.
Both the written report and the oral presentation may be completed in Catalan, Spanish, or English.

The assessment of the Bachelor's Thesis (TFG) will be based on the following components:
a) Supervisor’s assessment (30%)
A grade awarded by the supervisor, accounting for 30% of the final mark, based on the specific and transferable skills demonstrated by the student throughout the development of the Thesis. The supervisor must complete and upload the student assessment report to the submission area established in the course Virtual Campus. The assessment form will be available on the Virtual Campus, and it is the student’s responsibility to ensure that the supervisor receives it. The supervisor’s evaluation must be submitted at least two weeks before the public defense of the Thesis. If it is not available by the deadline, the course coordination team will be unable to take this component into account in the final assessment.
b) Written report assessment (mandatory, 30%)
A non-specialist assessment committee, composed of members of the Department of Physics and/or recognized scientists, will evaluate the written report. Students must submit the report in digital format according to the instructions provided through the Virtual Campus so that it can be distributed to the members of the evaluation committee.
c) Oral presentation assessment (mandatory, 25%)
A grade awarded by the evaluation committee based on the quality of the oral presentation.
d) Question-and-answer assessment (mandatory, 15%)
A grade awarded by the evaluation committee based on the student’s responses during the discussion and question period following the presentation. The assessment will consider the scientific content of the Thesis, the methodology employed, the quality of the written report and oral presentation, the responses provided during the defense, and, more generally, the degree of maturity demonstrated by the student. Evaluation will address not only acquired knowledge but also written and oral communication skills.
Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools
The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies is permitted in this course exclusively for support tasks, such as:
- Literature and information searches
- Language revision and proofreading
- Translation assistance
Students must clearly identify any parts of the work that have been generated with AI, specify the tools used, and include a critical reflection on how these tools influenced both the process and the final outcome.
Failure to disclose the use of AI in an assessable activity will be considered a breach of academic integrity and may result in a partial or total reduction of the grade for the activity, or more severe disciplinary measures in serious cases.

Students who fail to submit the written report and/or fail to complete the public defense of the Thesis within the established deadlines will receive a grade of Not Assessable (N/A)
