Prerequisites

There are no official prerequisites, but it is recommended that you have reached a good level of practical and theoretical knowledge in all clinical specialties.
 
Students will acquire the commitment of preserving the confidentiality and professional secret of the data to which he / she may have access because of the learning in the care services, as well as maintaining an attitude of professional ethics with all his / her actions.

-It is mandatory that the student obtain the certificate (negative) of crimes of a sexual nature before starting the practices. In addition, there are centers that require specific documentation that the student must submit on the first day of the internship or 15 days before the start of the internship.

There will be the possibility of being able to carry out the internship in the afternoon or in some extraordinary period. Not all centers affiliated with the UAB offer places in the afternoon or in extraordinary periods, in these cases, the student must adapt to the offer of places proposed by the university. Internships may not be carried out in centers not affiliated with the UAB.

The allocation of an afternoon place does not exempt from attending the compulsory theoretical and practical classes that take place in the afternoon at the university.

 It is recommended that all students be vaccinated according to the instructions of the UAB. Likewise, they must know the code of good practices. 

Students will take place in a different center from where they have done the Practicum I. It will only be possible to repeat by organizational criteria of the coordination of practices.


Requirements to access the practical places of:

-Pediatrics: students who have completed the subject Psychomotor Development of the Child or Physiotherapist Pediatric, and that are enrolled in the subject Psychomotor, Normal and Pathological.

-Pelvic Floor Disorders: enrolled in Prevention and treatment of Pelvic Floor Disorders.

-Sports: Registered in the optional subject of Physiotherapy in the Prevention and Treatment of Sports Disorders.

Objectives

The subject Practicum V is taught during the first semester of the fourth year of the Physiotherapy degree, and forms part of the group of basic training subjects. It is, therefore, part of the scientific basis necessary for the formation of the Physiotherapy graduate.

The general objective of the subject is to face with the practice activity, concepts already studied in other subjects, as well as to integrate all the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values acquired in all subjects, under the supervision of qualified physiotherapists.

During the practical sessions, students will apply all effective professional skills in order to provide comprehensive care to the user.

Learning outcomes

  1. Resolve clinical cases suitable for physiotherapy treatment in any clinical specialisation.
  2. Suitably record all steps taken, from reception of the patient to the physiotherapy discharge report, in accordance with each clinical specialisation.
  3. Carry out suitable physiotherapy assessment procedures to determine the degree of damage and its possible functional repercussions, in the patients assigned to the student in the clinical placement.
  4. Establish the general and specific criteria for applying the treatment.
  5. Establish treatment priorities in accordance with the problems detected.
  6. Establish the frequency of the intervention.
  7. Foresee needs for material and apparatus.
  8. Write a physiotherapy report, containing all information necessary to be a valid means of communication for patients and/or professionals.
  9. Interpret medical prescriptions.
  10. Make sure the environment for the physiotherapy treatment is comfortable.
  11. Identify signs and symptoms of disorders in biological functions related to physiotherapy.
  12. Offer guidance to non-medical staff on dealing with patients.
  13. Carry out health promotion activities with patients assigned during the clinical placement.
  14. Comply with the legal and professional guidelines governing the practice of physiotherapy.
  15. Apply the profession's code of practice.
  16. Apply evidence-based physiotherapy protocols.
  17. Analyse and evaluate systems for managing and monitoring general physiotherapy services.
  18. Analyse quality-assurance mechanisms in the physiotherapy service hosting the clinical placement, using the assessment instruments that have been taught.
  19. Communicate with all members of the therapy team.
  20. Use effective communication to facilitate interactions between the physiotherapist, the patient and the patient's family.
  21. Carry out physiotherapy interventions on the basis of integral health care that involves multiprofessional cooperation, the integration of processes and ongoing care.
  22. Express ideas fluently, coherently and correctly, both orally and in writing.
  23. Manage information systems.

  36. Keep patients informed about the treatment being given, including pharmacological treatment, and encourage them to cooperate fully.
  37. Execute, direct and coordinate the physiotherapy intervention plan using the right therapeutic tools and taking into consideration the patient's singularity.
  38. Identify situations in which a change or improvement is needed.
  39. Analyse a situation and identify its points for improvement.
  40. Propose new methods or well-founded alternative solutions.
  41. Weigh up the risks and opportunities of suggestions for improvement: one's own and those of others.

Contents

The realization of clinical practices give the student the opportunity to integrate the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values acquired in the subjects, in a real professional field. In this way, he or she can apply the different techniques to specific clinical cases, as well as participate in the prevention and promotion of health.


The student will attend the practice center daily and under the supervision of a \"tutor\" physiotherapist will apply different assessment and treatment techniques depending on the clinical cases.


The centers where the clinical stays will be carried out are centers of physical medicine and rehabilitation with current agreements.


The placement of the internship center will be done according to the procedures established by the Faculty


 


 

Learning activities and methodology

PRACTICE WITH GUIDELINES 150 6

The methodology of this course consists of an in-person practical placement at a public or private physiotherapy center with a UAB agreement, totalling 150 hours, where the student will be supervised and guided by a physiotherapist tutor. The student will adapt to the working methods of the center, acting as an integrated member of its functioning and as a professional caregiver for patients. Therefore, the activities will be guided by external professionals and supervised by university teaching staff.


Before the start of the clinical placements, the course coordinator will present the placement centers and explain the methodology and regulations for the placements.


The second part consists of the preparation of an assignment: the student will individually prepare a logbook of the activities carried out during the clinical placement and a clinical case follow-up, which will be detailed in the different sections specified in the assignment guidelines. The student will manage their own time to complete the work, combining placement hours with independent work at home. The assignment must be submitted no later than one week after the end of the placement period.


In order to gain broader knowledge and due to its curricular importance, it is recommended not to repeat the same specialty throughout all course placements. It is mandatory that during the degree students rotate through the following specialties: musculoskeletal, neurology, cardiorespiratory, and geriatrics.


Annotation: within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

Single Assessment: This course does not offer a single-assessment option.

  • Assessment during clinical placements at the healthcare center: The placement tutor will evaluate the student’s clinical skills using a questionnaire provided by the university. This component accounts for 70% of the final grade.
  • Narrative record (portfolio): The student must prepare a clinical case report and document the resolution of situations encountered during the placement. This includes linking theoretical knowledge with the patient’s current treatment. This assignment accounts for 30% of the final grade.


The course will be considered passed provided that the student obtains a minimum score of 5 in each of the assessment components. The final grade for the course must be at least 5 to pass.

According to UAB regulations, there is no possibility of retaking clinical placements or internship work.

If it is considered that the student has not provided sufficient evidence for assessment, the course will be marked as “not assessable.”

Students who do not attend the clinical placements and/or do not submit the required work will receive a “not assessable” grade. Any absence must be made up in order to pass the course.


Restricted use of AI: For this course, the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies is permitted exclusively for support tasks such as bibliographic or information searches, text correction, or translations. The student must clearly identify which parts have been generated using this technology, specify the tools used, and include a critical reflection on how these have influenced the process and the final outcome of the activity. Failure to be transparent about the use of AI in this graded activity will be considered academic dishonesty and may result in a partial or total penalty on the grade for the activity, or more severe sanctions in serious cases.


The performance of any irregularity in an assessment activity (academic fraud, plagiarism, or improper use of AI) that may lead to a significant change in the grade will result in that activity being graded as a 0. If the course syllabus stipulates that obtaining a minimum grade in this assessment activity is a mandatory requirement to pass the course, or if multiple irregularities occur in the assessment activities of the same course, the final grade for the course will be 0. In addition, disciplinary proceedings may be initiated against any student who commits such irregularities.
