Prerequisites
The UAB's regulations, set out in Article 5 of Annex I of the revised text approved by the Governing Council on 7 July 2022, establish two requirements for students to enrol for the Bachelor's thesis:
- Point 5 establishes that, in order to enrol in fourth-year subjects of bachelor's degree programs, it is necessary to have passed at least all first-year subjects and a total number of 120 ECTS in the first three years.
- Point 7 establishes that, in order to enrol for the Bachelor's thesis, it is necessary to have passed at least two thirds of the total ECTS of the curriculum, i.e. 160 ECTS.
The School of Economics and Business furthermore recommends that only students should enrol in the Bachelor's thesis who, supposing they pass all the subjects they enrol, can complete their bachelor's degree studies during the same academic year.
Objectives
According to Royal Decree 822/2021, of 28 September, which establishes the organisation of university education and the procedure for ensuring its quality, the Bachelor’s thesis must be aimed at assessing the knowledge, competences and skills associated with the degree program.
The Bachelor’s thesis is the culmination of the learning process of the students of the Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and allows them to demonstrate that they are capable of integrating the knowledge, skills and abilities acquired throughout the program through the preparation of an original, unpublished academic work of an individual nature specific to their field of knowledge.
Learning outcomes
- Capacity to continue future learning independently, acquiring further knowledge and exploring new areas of knowledge.
- Select and generate the information needed for each problem, analyse it and make decisions based on this information.
- A capacity of oral and written communication in Catalan, Spanish and English, which allows them to summarise and present the work conducted both orally and in writing.
- Organise work, in terms of good time management and organisation and planning.
- Demonstrate initiative and work independently when required.
- Demonstrate the ability to analyse and summarise and to apply the skills and competencies acquired in the degree to a topic in the economic or business field.
- Identify the social, economic and environmental implications of academic and professional activities within the area of your own knowledge.
- Students must be capable of communicating information, ideas, problems and solutions to both specialised and non-specialised audiences.
- Propose viable projects and actions that promote social, economic and environmental benefits.
- Consider how gender stereotypes and roles impinge on the exercise of the profession.
- Communicate using language that is not sexist or discriminatory.
- Propose ways to evaluate projects and actions for improving sustainability.
- Students must develop the necessary learning skills in order to undertake further training with a high degree of autonomy.
Contents
The Bachelor’s thesis must be original, unpublished work, of an individual nature and of a theoretical and/or applied nature, and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities acquired by the student throughout the program.
For the completion of the Bachelor’s thesis, the tutor will provide the necessary guidance on the structure of the work in accordance with the field of study.
In applied work, hypotheses based on a theoretical framework may be formulated and/or real cases or projects may be solved through the application of the techniques and methodologies of the program. In theoretical-oriented work, the student must carry out a critical review of the most relevant academic and/or professional literature on the chosen topic and provide their own well-founded analysis of the issue under study.
The tutor will provide guidance for the structure of the Bachelor’s thesis in accordance with the area of study assigned or chosen.
As far as the final format of the TFG document is concerned, students will follow the recommendations set out in the “Tools and Resources for TFG Writing” course. The tutor may modify these depending on the content of the work. Suggested length of 8.000 to 10.000 words of main text (under no circumstances, more than 11.000 words), including tables, figures, and references. Those bachelor’s theses bearing annexes will place them at the end of the work, in a reasonable number of pages that do not reckon in the previous limits.
Students will use the document cover established in the TFG norms (7.1, annex).
Students will be examined strictly to ensure their ethical integrity, especially in aspects such as plagiarism and falsification

The assignment and orientation of the Bachelor’s thesis begins with an information session organized by the Final Project coordinator of the School of Economics and Business, aimed at all students enrolled in this subject. In this session, the procedure for assigning the assignments, the calendar of activities and the general instructions of the subject will be explained.
It is strongly recommended that the student follow and pass the course "Tools and resources to carry out the Bachelor’s thesis ", on the date indicated in the calendar of activities related to the Bachelor’s thesis. The techniques explained in it are very useful for carrying out a quality Bachelor’s thesis.
The student will develop the Bachelor’s thesis individually. In case of preference to develop a topic other than the one assigned, he/she may present an alternative proposal to the tutor and ask for his/her consent to modify the initial assignment. If the tutor agrees, the student will be able to focus their Bachelor’s thesis on the agreed alternative topic. This change must be recorded in the Bachelor’s thesis tool, in the section corresponding to the first meeting. Under no circumstances may the student change the assigned tutor.
The student will hold a minimum of four individualized tutorials with the tutor, with the following objectives:
- First meeting with the assigned tutor: definition and initial approach of the in terms of objectives, methodology, sources of information, expected added value, structure, etc.
- Second meeting: monitoring of the progress in the preparation of the Bachelor’s thesis according to the planning carried out in the first meeting.
- Third meeting: assessment of the intermediate delivery of the Bachelor’s thesis and monitoring of the additional progress that has occurred since the intermediate delivery.
- Fourth meeting: public oral defense of the final version of the Bachelor’s thesis in front of the tutor.
After each of the meetings, the student will enter a summary of the aspects covered and the agreed work guidelines in the Final Projects (TFE) tool. The tutor will be able to make comments and validate the corresponding milestone. The student's progress will be tracked using this tool.
With regard to the format of the document, the student will follow the indications established in the Regulations for Final Projects of the School of Economics and Business and the guidelines provided by the tutor.
In preparing the Bachelor’s thesis, the student must respect the principles of academic integrity established in the Regulations of the Final Projects of the School of Economics and Business. In particular, the use of results obtained with artificial intelligence tools without mentioning their use and informing the tutor will be considered a situation of academic malpractice.
The Final Degree Project may be written in Catalan, Spanish or English. Students of the bachelor's degree in Business Administration in English in English must compulsorily prepare it in English.
In case of plagiarism or falsification at any moment the student's work will be automatically graded with a zero.
The use of results obtained with artificial intelligence tools without mentioning it or not informing the tutor about it, will be considered academic malpractice, in accordance with the Regulations for Final Projects of the School of Economics and Business.

The Bachelor’s thesis will receive a grade from the tutor. This grade will be based on the assessment of the written work, which will represent 80% of the tutor's grade, and on the public oral defence of the final version of the work before the tutor, which will represent the remaining 20%.
The assessment of the written work will be the sum of the grade of the intermediate delivery, with a weight of 15%, and of the final report, with a weight of 65%. The tutor will evaluate each of these pieces of evidence in accordance with the criteria established in the evaluation rubric provided for in the Regulations for Final Projects of the School of Economics and Business.
The grade awarded by the tutor will be the one that will initially appear in the course of the subject and in the Final Projects (TFE) tool. In accordance with the UAB's academic regulations, final grades are entered with one decimal. When the grade obtained is 6.95 or higher, it will be recorded as 7.0. In these cases, the student will be able to participate, voluntarily, in the Poster Days, with the aim of opting for a higher grade by presenting and defending the poster before the Evaluation Committee.
Participation in the Poster Days is voluntary. The student who, despite being able to participate, decides not to do so, will maintain the final grade of 7.0. In the event that the student participates in the Poster Days, the grade awarded by the Evaluation Committee will constitute the final grade of the subject.
Irregularities in the evaluation reports
Without prejudice to any other disciplinary measures that may be adopted, and in accordance with the current academic regulations of the UAB, in the event that the student commits any irregularity that may lead to a significant variation in the grade of an assessment act, this assessment act will be graded with a 0 (zero), regardless of the disciplinary process that may be instructed therein. In the event that there are several irregularities in the evaluation acts of the same subject, the final grade will be 0 (zero).
In the case of the Bachelor’s thesis, the student must respect the principles of academic integrity established in the Regulations of the Final Projects of the School of Economics and Business, especially with regard to the situations of malpractice defined in section 7.3, which include plagiarism, falsification of data or the use of results obtained with artificial intelligence tools without mentioning their use and reporting their use. tutor.
Bibliography
The tutor will provide the student with the methodological guidelines and bibliographic references that he/she considers appropriate for the development of the Bachelor’s thesis.
The bibliography used must be appropriate to the subject matter of the Bachelor’s thesis. With the advice of the tutor, it is expected to include, whenever relevant, specialised books, academic articles, reports and professional publications in the field of study, databases, institutional documentation and other relevant sources of information, as well as the electronic sources consulted during the preparation of the work.
