Prerequisites

  • For the Pràctiques Professionals course, students must preregister within the deadlines established in the annual schedule. The schedule is available at the following link:

  • Students who fail to preregister will not be eligible to enroll in the Pràctiques Professionals course. A student will only be assigned an internship placement if they have preregistered within the established deadline. The preregistration process allows students to rank up to five internship placements in order of preference. Placements are allocated on the basis of students' academic records.
  • It is recommended that students have completed and passed 120 ECTS credits before enrolling in this course and have completed the core courses, including Museography and all courses related to Museology offered within the degree programme. Priority will be given to students following the Art and Management track.
  • This course is intended to be taken during the final semester of the fourth year of the Art History degree programme, once students have successfully completed the maximum possible number of credits. Internships are carried out in cultural centres and institutions with which the UAB has established internship agreements.The pre-enrolment of students takes into account the prioritisation of a maximum of five places offered. Places are assigned according to the grade point average shown on the student’s transcript.
  • Internships generally take place in the mornings or afternoons from Monday to Friday, occasionally on weekends. Students should verify with the assigned institution that the proposed schedule does not conflict with their academic timetable.



Objectives

  1. Gain an understanding of the professional environment in the field of museology and cultural heritage management, including museums, art galleries, cultural enterprises, and research groups.
  2. Apply the knowledge and skills acquired through the degree curriculum.
  3. To carry out specific tasks in accordance with the needs of the host institution.
  4. To critically analyze the practices undertaken in order to foster professional growth and employability.

Learning outcomes

  1. Applying the iconographic knowledge to the reading of artistic imagery.
  2. Analysing ideas about an artistic phenomenon in a given cultural context.
  3. Analysing the creators of an artistic phenomenon in a specific cultural context.
  4. Analysing the recipients of an artistic phenomenon in a specific cultural context.
  5. Analysing the current or past debates about management, conservation, restoration and documentation systems of the artistic heritage.
  6. Analysing basic concepts of museology and museography.
  7. Engaging in debates about historical facts respecting the other participants' opinions.
  8. Planning and applying museographic projects and programmes, using the acquired knowledge about museology.
  9. Producing a project of management and conservation of the artistic imagery.
  10. Using the acquired knowledge in the elaboration of files, reports and rulings related to the conservation, documentation, and dissemination of the artistic heritage (cataloguing, inventory, restoration reports, artistic specialisation.
  11. Producing catalogue sheets and inventory of the architectonic or artistic heritage.
  12. Drawing up restoration reports of the architectonic and artistic heritage.
  13. Drawing up reports of artistic specialisation.
  14. Applying the arrangements and international, state and autonomic principles related to the management of the artistic heritage.
  15. Contrasting the various legal frameworks that can be applied to a practical case of management, documentation and conservation of the artistic heritage.
  16. Designing programmes of temporal and permanent expositions, including the programming of activities of educational nature for school and family audiences.
  17. Designing and applying education programmes in the different fields of Art History.
  18. Organizing their own time and work resources: designing plans with priorities of objectives, schedules and action commitments.
  19. Reflecting on their own work and the immediate environment's in order to continuously improve it.
  20. Adapting themselves to the professional market.
  21. Designing a museographic programme.

Internships may be undertaken in a variety of settings, including museums, cultural enterprises, art galleries, and research groups.

Students must attend at least two mentoring sessions (in-person or online) with their UAB mentor during the Professional Internship period.The coordinator will keep a record of these sessions by means of a written report.

The supervisor from the partner organization will prepare a report on the student’s progress, using the template available on the UAB website.

If the degree program deems it necessary, the supervisor from the partner organization may be asked to provide two reports—one interim and one final—using the template available on the UAB website.

Annotation: within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

As part of the learning activities included in the assessment of the External Internships course , students must meet the following requirements:

  • Submit two written reports during the placement period: an interim report and a final report.
  • Attend at least two group career guidance workshops organized by the Employability Service and provide proof of attendance by attaching the corresponding certificate to the Internship Report (Memòria de Pràctiques).
  • Complete the Professional Competencies Test offered by the UAB Employability Service. The test results must be downloaded and attached to the Internship Report.


Students who fail to attend their internship placement or who do not obtain a passing evaluation in the report issued by the host institution supervisor will receive a failing grade. In such cases, the internship course cannot be reassessed, nor may students re-enrol in it.


Definition of “Not Assessed” and other important information:


  • Not Assessed (NA): Awarded when students have completed less than 10% of the on-site hours stipulated in the internship agreement.
  • Fail: Awarded when students have completed more than 10% of the required on-site hours but have failed to complete the total number of hours established in the internship agreement, or when their performance has been assessed negatively.
  • Honours Distinction (Matrícula de Honor): This distinction is not awarded in this course due to its discretionary nature and the heterogeneous characteristics of the internship courses across the different degree programmes offered by the Faculty.


This course does not provide for a single-assessment system.
