Objectives and Contextualisation

A general survey of the main events and processes of change and continuity in Spain from the end of the 15th century to the XXIst cebntury, with various thematic approaches, and with special emphasis on the social, political and cultural aspects that allow a better contextualization of Spanish literature of the Modern Age.

Competences

Act in one's own field of knowledge evaluating inequalities based on sex/gender.
Identify the most significant periods, traditions, trends, authors and works in Spanish-language literature in their historical and social context.
Students must be capable of collecting and interpreting relevant data (usually within their area of study) in order to make statements that reflect social, scientific or ethical relevant issues.
Students must be capable of communicating information, ideas, problems and solutions to both specialised and non-specialised audiences.
Students must have and understand knowledge of an area of study built on the basis of general secondary education, and while it relies on some advanced textbooks it also includes some aspects coming from the forefront of its field of study.

Learning Outcomes

Analyse inequalities due to sex or gender and gender bias in the field of social-historical knowledge.
Draw conclusions from the reading of an essay.

Identify the main periods in Western history.
Make clear summaries of information or ideas.

Relate the principal historical periods with their literary expressions.

Content

The plan is divided into two blocks with two different teachers, one for the Early Modern Age and another for the 19th-21st centuries.

In the first block, it is noted that most students do not have a clear systematic knowledge of the fundamental aspects of the period because the Early Modern Age is not part of the curricula of the Catalan "Batxillerat".

Instead, the second block focuses on the factors most directly related to Spanish literature at the time, since most students have taken the subject "History of Contemporary Spain" in the 2nd year of Baccalaureate.

BLOCK 1:

1. -The Catholic Monarchs: the beginnings of the Early Modern Age.

2. -The sixteenth century: The Hispanic Monarchy and its political hegemony.

3. -The seventeenth century: Continuity or crisis?

4. -The eighteenth century: the reforms of the Bourbons.

BLOCK 2:

1. The 19th century: the world of liberalism.

2. The first third of the 20th century: democratic construction.

3. Dictatorship, exile and reconstruction.

4. Epilogue: democracy and market.

Note: 15 minutes of a class will be reserved, within the calendar established by the center, for the complementation by the students of the surveys of evaluation of the performance of the profesorado and of evaluation of the asignatura.

Annotation: Within the schedule set by the centre or degree programme, 15 minutes of one class will be reserved for students to evaluate their lecturers and their courses or modules through questionnaires.

CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT:

Competences will be assessed through exams, text comments and individual work, with partial grades weighted on the final grade.

The evaluation system is organized in two modules:

• Exam module (70%): exam 1 (35%), exam 2 (35%).

Two written tests (exams) on the content of each block.

• Work module, with a value of 30% of the final grade of the course. Two works (15% each one).

No evaluable activity will weigh more than 50% of the final grade,

The subject will be graded with a minimum of three evaluable activities from two different modules.

Evaluation activities must be submitted on time. The work module is not subject to the recovery test.

Assessment activities will be scheduled throughout the academic year. The dates of the tests in the classroom and of delivery of works and reviews will be communicated to the students sufficiently in advance. At the time of carrying out / delivering each assessment activity, the teacher will inform (Moodle, SIA) of the procedure and date of review of the grades.

Students who have not taken a minimum of assessment tests involving 30% of the final grade of the course will be qualified with a Non-Assessable and will not be able to take the re-assessment.

In the event that the student commits any irregularity that may lead to a significant variation in the grade of an assessment act (plagiarism), this assessment act will be graded with 0, regardless of the disciplinary process that may occur. instruct. In the event of several irregularities in the evaluation acts of the same subject, the final grade for this subject will be 0.

This subject entirely prohibits the use of AI technologies in all of its activities. Any submitted work that contains content generated using AI will be considered academic dishonesty; the corresponding grade will be awarded a zero, without the possibility of reassessment. In cases of greater infringement, more serious action may be taken.

Spelling, spelling, or lexical errors are taken into account in the written activities. The penalty can be between 0.1-0.2 points for each foul committed on the final grade of each evaluation act.

This course does not include a "single assessment" system, as determined by the Degree in Spanish Language and Literature.

RECOVERY

To participate in the recovery, students must have previously been assessed in a set of activities that is equivalent to a minimum of 2/3 of the total grade.

To participate in the recovery, students must have obtained at least a grade of 3.5.

The recovery will be held on the dates officially set by the Faculty. In no case can recovery be considered as a means of improving the qualification of students who have already passed the subject in the normal process of continuous assessment. The maximum grade that can be obtained in the recovery is 5.0 (Approved).
